about

Formerly the enfant terrible of the British stage, Howard Brenton has recently returned to the theater with a number of successes, including Paul for the National Theatre and In Extremis for Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Never So Good is his newest epic play on British politics, which premiered in the spring of 2008 at the National Theatre.

Howard Brenton was born in 1942 in Portsmouth, where his father was a policeman and a lay preacher. He had written several plays for the Royal Court, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the National Theatre before "Romans in Britain" (1980) was famously the cause of a failed prosecution by moral crusaders.
