Rated 5 out of 5 by from New York to dallas The in death series is a great one only one out of 42 that i haven't like but this one brings parts of the story to a conclusion without losing any of the story or having to change the characters and where they are going. It is a fantastic cop series set in the future without being science fiction. You are just there from book one and work it out and its easy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Darker and tougher than the ones before. This book brings so many issues to conclusion. It is much more personal all the other Dallas books and a compelling read. I don't know how J.D. Robb can come up with so many different murder plots but she does! The peripheral characters aren't as prominent in this book, it mostly takes place in Dallas. I did miss Baxter, Trueheart, Peabody and McNabb but it totally fit the storyline. If you are an Eve Dallas fan this one is a must read. It is hard to put down. It fills in all the gaps in Eve's life and could easily have been the last in the series. Thankfully it's not, as the next installment just came out!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the Trip What? An Eve Dallas book without the 'in Death' title? Yep, and New York to Dallas is a fitting title for this latest installment as we find Eve doing just that, leaving her comfort zone and returning to Dallas, a place from her tortured past. A sadistic child rapist/murderer has escaped and he has revenge on his mind. Revenge on the former rookie cop that caught a lucky break and caught him. He leads Eve on a merry chase back to her past in more ways than one. This book is a departure not only because of the title, but because we find Eve and Roarke virtually on their own. We get brief glimpses of the rest of the gang back in New York, but this is really Eve's and Roarke's tale with Robb (a.k.a. Nora Roberts) playing to the fans that want more of Eve's backstory. That's not to say that the crime story itself isn't up to par. The bad guy this time out is particularly menacing and there are plenty of close calls and little twists to keep things lively. But the best part was the interplay between Eve and Roarke. I love how they just 'get' each other and although I found their story emotional it was intense not overdone. It's amazing that 30+ books into this series, it still holds my interest and manages to keep fresh. Usually I say for newbies to a series to start at the beginning. Well, with this series, that would be a rather large investment. I would however recommend reading at least the first two books, just so you get a good foundation (plus they are both great). Then you could read a sampling of the rest of the series. I probably wouldn't recommend this one if you haven't already immersed yourself a bit in Eve's world. You'd just miss too much of the earlier story to really feel what is going on. Who knows? After reading the first few you may find yourself hooked like I did and soon will find yourself scouring the the used book stores trying to find every single installment (or better yet....go digital!). 2011-049
