Never did it cross my mind that we would one day bury our child. But death, the cruel thief, came one evening and claimed him. And though the 'why' never leaves, hope finds its way through the long, dark night.

All loss is tragic no matter the circumstances. I shattered when Davis died. Life as I knew it was in many pieces. We all broke that night. Re-entry into a new life follows. It looks and feels very different. There are empty spaces. And horrible scars. But there is also unsurpassed beauty.

Stay alongside me through this love song for Davis. Feel its mournful yet gentle, encouraging tone. Every page composes a note in the movement of the song. May the music soothe you in your own circumstances and stir in you the desire to pursue the joy of daybreak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A powerful window into grief....and how to help those whom we love who are bereaved A powerful and profound read. I purposely read it slowly, reading each word, as I knew each and every word was chosen intentionally. Sally’s book isn’t a flowing novel about her life, as one may expect. It is a series of rapid , intense and poignant snap shots into her life of tragedy and pain. It is almost a collection of very short, small stories with tremendous impact to the reader. Each one is captivating. Many made me gasp. In her attempt to explain the deep suffering of the loss of her beloved son, Davis , she does not evoke sympathy but rather a window into the broken soul and what that looks like in very real day to day life. She invites us, the reader, to walk alongside her through those dark times. Nothing is sugarcoated. It is hard. But she doesn’t leave us there.... The joy of hope and the beauty of life come with such tender , slow , and deliberate rebuilding of her soul and spirit. I cherish this book’s message. Having worked with children with cancer for over twenty years, I have walked through some very sad times with dear families . How I wish I had a resource like this over those years of befriending bereaved parents. Sally’s transparency is almost startling at times, and her words of advice and ideas of how you can help are both practical and creative. The message I hear from so many parents who lost a child to cancer, is that their child never be forgotten. Sally’s book will reinforce that truth to all its readers. It’s an important message for each of us.
