about

Nineteen Grey Street centres around the large close knit Blackstone family who lived in a remote village in Northern Scotland during World War Two, and the only entertainment in the village was a weekly dance in the village hall.

Although this book is fiction, it is a reminder of the repetitious life of a large family endured during World War Two.

The author knows, she was there.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A taste of real life! This wonderful book relates in amazingly vivid detail the lives and doings of a common Scottish family during WWII. The author skilfully revives lost traditions, from cooking recipes to idiomatic expressions, which formed part of an era filled with vicissitudes, uncertainty, but most importantly the will to survive. Great book!!
