New York Times Bestseller

A startlingly original debut from the actor, writer, director, and executive producer hailed as “a gifted observer of the human condition and a very funny writer capable of winning that rare thing: unselfconscious, insuppressible laughter” (The Washington Post).

A boy wins a $100,000 prize in a box of Frosted Flakes—only to discover that claiming the winnings might unravel his family. A woman sets out to seduce motivational speaker Tony Robbins—turning for help to the famed motivator himself. A new arrival in Heaven, overwhelmed with options, procrastinates over a long-ago promise to visit his grandmother. We meet Sophia, the first artificially intelligent being capable of love, who falls for a man who might not be ready for it himself; a vengeance-minded hare, obsessed with scoring a rematch against the tortoise who ruined his life; and post-college friends who try to figure out how to host an intervention in the era of Facebook.  Along the way, we learn why wearing a red T-shirt every day is the key to finding love, how February got its name, and why the stock market is sometimes just . . . down.

Finding inspiration in questions from the nature of perfection to the icing on carrot cake, One More Thing has at its heart the most human of phenomena: love, fear, hope, ambition, and the inner stirring for the one elusive element just that might make a person complete. Across a dazzling range of subjects, themes, tones, and narrative voices, the many pieces in this collection are like nothing else, but they have one thing in common: they share the playful humor, deep heart, sharp eye, inquisitive mind, and altogether electrifying spirit of a writer with a fierce devotion to the entertainment of the reader.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A compilation of hilarious short stories After reading (and enjoying) the written works of Mindy Kaling, I decided to give B.J. Novak a read based on what she had written about him. I originally thought it would be somewhat similar to the humorous memoirs of similar comedians Kaling, Poehler, Fey. I was wrong, but in a good way. This book filled with short stories, surprised me. Along with it being funny to the point of having laugh out loud moments, some of the stories had an underlying depth that I didn't expect. Honestly, this volume of short stories was a hit to me and I rarely read short story collections. Who ever thought I'd be interested in reading a love story about a robot, or about someone inventing the calendar? I would recommend this book but at the same time, I can see how if you were picking this book up with the expectation of a comedic memoir (even if it doesn't claim to be one at all) you could be disappointed. I definitely wasn't, I liked how different this collection was in the sea of memoirs that have been published as of late. Definitely will check out more from B.J. Novak because he has an obvious talent with writing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Many great stories A great, funny and well written collection of stories. It is a bit like an expanded universe of R-showerthoughts and I know that I am going to re read several of my favorites many times. It is the perfect bedside book for someone like me who likes to read before sleep but can frequently only muster energy for a few pages.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quirky and original A truly original collection of stories. Some witty, some groan-worthy, some beautiful, some just plain weird ... But all-in-all a very entertaining read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I've always adored B.J. Novak but after reading this I fell in love. He is such a great writer and it's amazing how his mind works in order to create these short story plots. They're all so creative and you wish that the story would never end but then the next story begins and you fall in love all over again. Most writers need a novel to make the reader connect to the character, but Novak is able to make you connect to a character within a few pages. True talent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Brilliant, original, and beautifully written. The stories have a sweet, smart sensibility and the depth of feeling can take you by surprise. Never too sickeningly sweet, though, Novak always brings it back to the funny ... without ever underestimating the reader.
