Rated 5 out of 5 by from My ties to the river Recently, My cousin, Norma Kahnt, loaned me her father's original signed copy of this book. My cousin, her family and my father and myself were all natives of Rockport. I was only two years old when my parents and I left the area due to our house burning down in Rockport (1949), I missed many experiences of living in that wonderful area. We would visit every long weekend and summers but it was not the same as growing up there. My father spoke lovingly of his childhood on the river and some of the hardships they endured as well. This book has given background and explanations to some of the questions I never thought to ask. Our family, the Kahnt family was one of the founding families of the village of Rockport. Agnes and Oliver Kahnt, (aka Trapper David Farrer) were cousins to my father, Albin Kahnt. I met Ed Andress as a child and visited his boat building shop numerous times with my father who admired his work and the man himself. A few other names I recognized as my father spoke of them. This book was written from the heart by a man who loved and appreciated the river as if he had been born there. A truly wonderful book, it gave me a greater understanding of the meaning of growing up on the river. To this day every time I smell gasoline on the water it takes me back to the river and to "Andress Boat Works".
