In this epic of unsurpassed action and imagination, Michael Stackpole helps to launch an exciting era in Star Wars® history. ONSLAUGHT pits the battle-tested heroes of the past--Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa Solo--along with the next generation of Jedi and droids, against fearsome never-before-encountered enemies from beyond the galactic rim . . .

It is a perilous time for the New Republic. Just when unity is needed most, mistrust is on the rise. Even the Jedi feel the strain, as rogue elements rebel against Luke's leadership. When alien invaders known as the Yunnan Vong strike without warning, the New Republic is thrown on the defensive. Merciless warriors, the Yunnan Vong glory in torture. Their technology is as strange as it is deadly. Most ominous of all, they are impervious to the Force.

Now Luke must wield all the awesome powers of a Jedi Master to defeat the gravest threat since Darth Vader. As Leia and Gavin Darklighter lead desperate refugees in a fighting retreat from Yunnan Vong forces, Mara Jade, Anakin, Jacen, and Corran Horn find themselves tested as never before by a faceless, implacable foe determined to smother the light of the New Republic forever beneath a shroud of darkest evil . . .

Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the Star Wars expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A worthy successor to Vector Prime Stackpole is one of the EU's best and it shows here. The Yuuzhon Vong continue their invasion but the highlight of the book is the interaction between arguably the EU's two best new characters Mara Jade and Anakin Solo. Anakin grows quite a bit in this book both as a Jedi and as a person. The scenes where Anakin is defending Mara are some of the best of the entire series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strength in Unity The second book in the New Jedi Order provided me with an interesting read; I found the novel to be very informative but not all that exciting. Michael A. Stackpole, author of the X-Wing series, and companion novel ‘I Jedi’ for the Jedi Academy Trilogy has always kept me turning pages, but not this time. When alien invaders known as the Yuuzhan Vong attack without warning, the New Republic is thrust into an impossible war. Refugees from the planet Durbillion lead by Leia Organa Solo and X-Wing pilot Gavin Darklighter encounter many problems as they try to find a safe haven while Luke and his wife are put to the tests by unknown forces. Having thoroughly enjoyed Stakpole’s previous novels, I came into Onslaught expecting to be blown away. While I wasn’t blown away as I had hoped, I did acquire a whole new knowledge of the Force, the workings of the New Republic and the alien invaders as well as great character interactions. The novel was a very informative read – focusing on limits and how teamwork is invaluable. Michael Stackpole is a great Star Wars novelist - he has an eye to catch every great ascpect in such a vast universe. Onslaught was a good read and I look forward to the next one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stackpole is Star Wars Not too many people have a grasp on the Star Wars universe like Stackpole. His books are phenomenal. If you havn't read "Rouge Squadren" and "I, Jedi", do it NOW! Where Salvatore dropped the ball in Vector Prime, Stackpole scooped it up and scored. This is so fast paced and exciting you'll never put this book down. Plus, the focus is on Corran Horn, who, IMO, is the best character in the Star Wars universe today.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely a must own book! Continuing the saga of the Yuuzhan Vong, this book picks up with Leia trying to get the Senate to deal with this new threat. However, they are not convinced, and assign an investigator to experience this proposed problem, and experience it he does! While the Jedi mourn the loss of one of their own, they have no time to waste as the Outer Rim worlds are being attacked! A pirate survivor is the key to battling these enemies who use weapons that cannot be detected both by the Force and by mechanics! Our favourite pilots make a comeback here, Wedge, Tycho, Gavin Darklighter, the Solo children, Mara, Luke and of course a re-vitalized Rogue Squadron containing all new characters! Defeating these invaders will require a combined effort of all worlds, and tactics that have never been thought of before! I thought this book was better than Vector Prime, as it has an amazing battle with my favourite character - Corran Horn.
