about

Trompe l'oeil, or literally "trick the eye", describes a style of painting that sets out to deceive. It is the art style that creates the illusion of three-dimesnsions onto a flat surface.

In this Orange Tree project the artist takes you on a step-by-step journey throughout the planning and painting process complete with colour photographs and diagrams. It is his wish to equip you with an understanding of the techniques and materials necessary to create your very own trompe l'oeil masterpiece.

Chris Westall is an established muralist and trompe l'oeil artist from the United Kingdom. He has been invited to demonstrate his techniques on numerous occasions for interior design programs on both BBC1 and ITV1. Chris lives in Essex with his wife, two teenage children and a rescue dog called Jessie
