about

Here are the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle as they first appeared in the famed British magazine The Strand. This periodical was the literary sensation of its time, especially with the publication of the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles (which appears in its entirety in this volume), when eager readers lined up outside the magazine's London offices, waiting for each installment as it came off press. This edition contains 37 short stories, reproduced in complete facsimile (published in individual volumes as "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes", and "The Return of Sherlock Holmes"), plus the complete novel The Hound of the Baskervilles. Today, the collection of the original issues of The Strand containing the Holmes stories is a rare collector's piece. It is brought to you now, complete and unabridged, comprising a total of well over 600 pages, providing the undying excitement and fascination of each and every Sherlock Holmes Adventure. The drawings of Sidney Paget illustrate the stories--illustrations as immortal as the stories themselves. Paget produced more than 350 Sherlock Holmes illustrations, and it was his depictions which gave Holmes visual reality for everyone, which projected him throughout the world, and which today still provide the mold of the original hero in production on stage, screen and television.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A standby favourite I read this from cover to cover when I first purchased it and still pull it down from the shelf to revisit my favourites. A classic for a reason.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Original Sleuth at his best Over the years, I had read several Sherlock Holmes stories, from time to time. To find all of his stories in one book is marvelous. This book is a must-read, by the fireplace on cold winter nights. The stories are quite entertaining, even though the plots and solutions are simplistic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An iconic tale of deductice mystery. A must have for anyone's home library. If you found "The Hound of the Baskervilles" too long of a story than perhaps you will enjoy the shorter (and numerous) Sherlock Holmes cases (note this volume also contains "The Hound of the Baskervilles").

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fascinating, engrossing and satisfying mysteries. The Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes is a one-of-a-kind collection of crime and mystery stories featuring the original detective of classic literature, Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle's tales of murder, theft and many various nefarious plots are fascinating and engrossing, amazing the reader as Holmes solves the multi-faceted elements of each case with dramatic flair. Described most satisfyingly by Doyle's narrator and Holmes' friend, Dr. Watson, and profusely illustrated by the incomparable Sidney Paget, this thick volume of more than 600 pages reproduces a large number of the Sherlock Holmes cases as they were originally published in The Strand Magazine over the course of 14 years from 1891 to 1905, comprised of the collections The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, The Return of Sherlock Holmes and the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles. Not included in this volume are the collections His Last Bow and The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, as well as the two original Sherlock Holmes stories, "A Study In Scarlet" and "The Sign Of Four," written by Doyle before his famous detective was serialized, and his later Holmes novel, "The Valley Of Fear." However, don't let that stop you from picking up a copy of this wonderful hardcover volume while it is still in print, and visit Wikipedia for much more information about Sherlock Holmes.
