NATIONAL BESTSELLER

An unforgettable story of an ordinary woman in astonishing circumstances who defies the odds.

Timea Nagy was twenty years old when she answered a newspaper ad in Budapest, Hungary, calling for young women to work as babysitters and housekeepers in Canada. Hired by what seemed like a legitimate recruitment agency, Timea left her home believing she would earn good money to send back to her family. What she didn't know was that she'd been lured by a ring of international human traffickers--and her life would never again be the same.

Upon her arrival in Toronto, she was forced into sex labour in some of the city's seediest nightclubs, starved and controlled by her agents, and brainwashed to believe she was to blame for her situation. The only way she'd be free was when her debt was paid--but, no matter how hard she worked, that debt seemed only to go up, not down.

Out of the Shadows is a gripping, heartbreaking and eye-opening journey deep into the underworld of human trafficking and the sex trade, told in riveting detail by one brave survivor. At once tragic and powerfully redemptive, Timea Nagy's story will stay with you long after you've read the last page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great story and well written I recently read Out of the Shadows and was immediately taken with this book and flew through it which I haven’t done in a long time. Timea Nagy is an unbelievably courageous woman and extremely brave for not only surviving her horrible ordeal, but she also had the guts to share it with us. I had read Through the Glass by Shannon Moroney and I loved it so I was eager to read Out of the Shadows and she did another great job in writing this book. This time it wasn’t her story but she clearly did a lot of research and was able to trigger many emotions – fear, sadness, anger, suspense, relief, and happiness with her style of writing. This truly is an amazing story and I definitely recommend picking up this book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing read Very well written. I haven't read a page-turner like this in a very long time. I cannot put it down! This is an unbelievable gut-wrenching story that should be required reading for all teenagers. Timea is incredibly brave to share her experiences with us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eye opener Incredible book, truly eye opening. This book is well written and I’m grateful her story has been shared to help educate. I grew up in the city during her time in Toronto and had no clue this was happening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible story and well written book I truly loved this book. Once I started it, I could not put it down. I was so taken with Timea and her story. She is an incredible woman who demonstrates resilience in the most incredible ways. The book is non fiction and is an important education on human trafficking, but it reads like a page turner and was interesting right to the end. Loved it.
