The work gives attention to all levels of government within the Australian federal political system as well as local government and regional politics. Professor Brian Galligan is the Head of the Politics Department at the University of Melbourne. Brian lectures several political science subjects at the University of Melbourne and his research is focused on Australian Politics and political economy. He has been a professor at the University of Melbourne since 1995.
