about

Darwyn Cooke's first two Parker books, The Hunter and The Outfit, are collected in a tremendous, special, oversized hardcover edition — with an additional 65-pages of Darwyn Cooke content and a brand-new story — encased in a beautiful slipcase!

Richard Stark's Parker: The Hunter graphic novel debuted in July 2008 to instantaneous popular and critical acclaim. It made the New York Times bestseller list and won coveted Eisner and Harvey awards. The second graphic novel, The Outfit, was released last year and was met with similar response, and is currently under consideration for nominations in this year's awards season.

The Hunter
and The Outfit tell the story of Parker, Richard Stark's classic anti-hero, as he returns to New York to settle the score with his wife and partner in crime after they betray him in a heist gone terribly wrong. After evening the field and reclaiming his prize, the Outfit decide to do some score settling of their own... and learn much too late that when you push a man like Parker, it had better be all the way to the grave.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from IDW printing quality is amazing & Parker too IDW editior Scott Dunbier is the genius behind 2 of my favorite comics formats ever made. 1. DC ABSOLUTES, and 2. IDW ARTIST series. When he was doing the Absolutes at DC they were IMHO the staple that all other special edition books were compared to. That has not really continued in his absence. Now he is at IDW making some seriously great decisons on the print quality of this publisher. IMHO IDW has the best paper, covers, and lack of outside advertising of any of the comic publishers going today. It boggles the mind how IDW $3.99 comics can have superior paper and covers than Marvels $3.99 books and have no advertising other than pushing their own books. Off track a little sure I know. Parker The Martini Ed. stands a little taller than a DC Absolute. The print quality is second to none. The cost is unbeliveably reasonable compared to other books of similar format, and it contains an amaziong amount of extras. The bulk of this vol. contains the 1st 2 volumes of Darwyn Cooke's adaptation of Richard Starks Parker series. Parker The Hunter, and Parker the Outfit. The fantastic crime story of a man betrayed seeking revenge on those responsible. As a huge plus there are 2 short stories included in thie vol. A shortened version Of Parker the Seventh, and The Man with the Gettaway Face. 2 very good stories each adding to the Mr. Cookes vision of Parker. Also included is a very nice interview with Darwyn Cooke, Ed Brubaker, Scott Dunbier, and a 4th I am forgetting. I think it may be Matt Fraction. Apparently these four all responsible for CRIME FICTION making a comeback into comics. At the end of this book is a fantastic art section depicting films, and acting roles based on or infulenced by Richard Starks Parker. There was alot. Pretty much each movie get its own page with original art and a little synopsis of the PARKER relationship. There some very cool people there. Jim Brown, Jack Palance, Terrence Stamp, Robert Duvall, Robert Redford, Mel Gibson, and Jason Statham. This is one of the best collected edtions I have ever seen. This is one of the best volumes in my collections.
