“Two there should be; no more, no less.
One to embody the power, the other to crave it.”
–Darth Bane, Dark Lord of the Sith

On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel, a cortosis miner, vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel’s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, a far greater destiny awaits him.
As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side, Dessel embraces his new identity: Bane. But the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness, he must defy the most sacred traditions and reject all he has been taught. It is a trial by fire in which he must surrender fully to the dark side–and forge from the ashes a new era of absolute power.

“A solid space adventure [that] charts the evolution of an antihero almost as chilling as Darth Vader.”
–Publishers Weekly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bane of the Sith An intergalactic battle rages between the Republic and Sith, looking to fortify their numbers they recruit front line soldiers and seek those with "abilities". Dessel is on the run and with no where to hide, his only escape is to join the Sith ranks in the war. A Sith Master senses power and darkness in Dessel and sends him to The Sith Academy on Korriban for training to harness the dark side of the Force. Dessel, now known as Bane, will challenge the teachings, fellow students, the Masters and the very meaning of being a Sith. He seeks more than to become Lord Bane, he is to become Darth Bane and set the new path for future Sith. A great read in the time of the Old Republic, a history lesson per se, of Sith legends, the philosophies of the dark side of the Force and the power to bring ultimate rule of the Galaxy for the Sith.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Sith legend Drew Karpyshyn has penned what must be considered a modern day Sith Holocron. Really, this well written book kept me up late into the night. Bane emerges as, and perhaps Vader would disagree, the most powerful Sith of all time. Karpyshyn vividly describes Bane's transformation from Dessel the miner to the mighty Sith Lord, Darth Bane. All the while, Karpyshyn delves deep into (and creates) Sith history and allows us (and Bane) to explore the immense vault of "dark side" knowledge so rarely talked about in the pages of most Star Wars novels. A must read for Star Wars fans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must-Read for Sith Fans Karpyshyn's no-nonsense writing style compliments this books about the Sith well. Path of Destruction details Dessel's journey from the mines, to becoming Sith apprentice at Korriban, and finally to the full realization of Darth Bane and the rediscovery of the Rule of Two. Overall, a fantastic read and the start of an equally fantastic series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Darker Than Vader Involving whole new characters from an era 3000 years before the happenings of The New Hope movie, The Path of Destruction tells a tale of a young and troubled spaceminer, named Dessel, on his road to master the ultimate power of the dark side of the Force. As he grew tired of living in mining ghettos, he joined the great army of the Sith, which controlled its galactic cluster. He climbed through the ranks rapidly as he was strong in military tactics and firearm handling. His Sith superiors grew fond of him as he proved himself to be the best soldier in the army. They decided to give him proper training in the dark side of the Force. And this is when the fun starts as you get in the skin of an evil minded sith disciple as he decides to be the most powerful sith who ever existed. I think that this book is perfect if you want to know how it feels to be the bad guy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Beginning of Star Wars A great book. I put off reading the Star Wars books for years thinking they would be inconsistent or poorly written. This is the first book 1000 years before A New Hope and it is a great read, I finished it in 3 days and it only took that long because I was busy. I highly reccomend
