about

In a starred review, PW called the heroine of these riveting paranormal mysteries "a teen detective for the 21st century."

When you can see things others can't, what do you do when someone's watching you?

Everybody knows about Clarity "Clare" Fern. She's the psychic girl in school, the one who can place her hands on something and see hidden visions from the past.

Only Clare would rather not be a celebrity. She prefers hanging back, observing. Her gift is not a game to her.

But then someone starts playing with her head... and heart. Messages and gifts from a secret admirer crop up everywhere Clare turns. Could they be from Gabriel, the gorgeous boy who gets Clare's pulse racing? Or from Justin, Clare's hopeful ex-boyfriend who'd do anything to win her back?

One thing is certain. Clare needs to solve this mystery, and soon. Because the messages are becoming sinister, and a girl in town has suddenly disappeared. Clare needs to see her way to the truth-before it's much too late.

KIM HARRINGTON lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. When not writing, she's most likely reading, watching one of her favorite TV shows, or fantasizing about her next vacation. She has no psychic powers and is cool with that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good continuation of the series With most books the second book of the series is let down, however this novel makes an exception. The author has continued with the right amount of suspense and compelling events. I really enjoyed reading this book, the author has me hooked and I am extremely excited for the possible third novel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Engaging and Dynamic! Perception by Kim Harrington is engrossing and dynamic! This mix of contemporary mystery with a paranormal twist, will be swallowed by readers in just one seat! In this enjoyable page-turner, Clare deals with a new unexpected popularity in school born from the past and almost lethal events from Clarity #1. In addition, her brother has developed some problem behavior since his unfortunate experience in Clarity (he was accuse of murder) Also, Clare now has to deal with her two love interests, Gabriel and Justin, and if that wasn't enough, she also got a stalker! Whoa! I highly enjoyed Perception. This sequels brings back all the dynamism of Harrington's writing style that makes readers enjoy these books so much. The story flies from page to page leaving no interest in putting this book down! This time, the mystery revolts around a girls' disappearance who used to go to the same High School as Clare. But that's not all, the mystery expands to Clare's stalker and to the ghost his brother is suddenly able to listen. However, the mystery aspects on the plot are predictable. Yet, regardless its predictability, I still highly enjoyed this book! The romance in Perception is subtle but constantly present. I certainly loved this aspect of the book! This makes the story even more compelling. I think the romance is very well distributed through all the book! The love interests, Justin and Gabriel, are definitely great characters and very different at the same time. Both of them are alluring and special in their own ways. I love the contrast between the two male protagonists and the different approaches the use to get to Clare. Clare, in the other hand, is dealing with different unexpected things that makes impossible for her to pick one of these two captivating guys. I highly enjoyed the school life in this book. Homecoming, new friends, parties, etc! Sometimes, some paranormal books forget that school life is something very present in teenagers' life. Perception is absolutely a book that brings the paranormal into a teenager's every day life. I love this about Harrington's world! I love the big mix of contemporary mystery with the perfect paranormal dose that make these books so compelling! Harrington's writings is very engaging and fast paced. Perception is page-turner that will entirely hook readers through this YA paranormal mystery. I highly recommend Clarity and Perception to fans of The Body Finder! They will certainly fall in love with this series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I ADORE THIS SERIES! Kim Harrington's young adult debut novel, Clarity, instantly surprised me. Despite it's short length, I quickly fell in love with the story of Clare Fern, a girl who could see things that others couldn't. In Clarity, Clare's special ability helped her solve the case of a murdered teenage girl, along with the help of her ex-boyfriend and the new detective's son. In Perception, Clare has finally proven her brother's innocence in the murder of a teen girl. However, things don't settle down as she had hoped. Suddenly, Clare begins to get messages and gifts from a secret admirer, some of which she expects is being send to her by her ex boyfriend. However, things start to get weird very quickly and Clare, once again, finds herself in the middle of a mystery. With swift determination, Clare once again joins Justin and Gabriel in solving the case. I can only hope for more in the Clarity series from Kim Harrington! With the ending of Clarity I was left with countless questions. I needed to know more about Clare's father and the origins of her ability. Minor Spoiler: Unfortunately, with Perception, neither of my questions were answered. End spoiler. Fortunately, with this installment came another delicious mystery that made me fall head over heels for Kim Harrington's characters and writing once more. Clare, in contrast to how she was in Clarity, grew quite a bit from the drama. She was far more aware and open with her physic ability and a lot less hesitant in using it. Her relationship with both Justin and Gabriel grew quite a bit, as well. I still think Gabriel is , by far, my favorite character in the series. In Perception I learned quite a bit more about him and I'm pleased to say that readers will absolutely love it! Kim Harrington's writing, once again, instantly pulled me in! Despite the novel's laid back and less adventurous dialogue, I still found myself clutching Perception's pages hoping for more. After reaching the end, I found myself wanting more for the series and more from Kim Harrington. I still continued to have countless unanswered questions despite my hope of getting answers in Perception. However, I hope that Kim has more planned for this series and will, hopefully, reveal more about Clare's father. Both Clarity and Perception are highly recommended to young adult and adult readers who adore short mysteries with romance!

Read from the Book

From Perception: A Clarity NovelThe breeze was brisk and cool on my face, reddening my cheeks. Though I was alone and the woods should have seemed quieter than they did when I walked with Mallory, they instead seemed noisier, full of chattering birds and the fluttering of falling leaves. I tried not to bristle at every little sound, reminding myself that nature made noise. But as I neared the center of the woods, one particular rustle of leaves sounded exactly like a rushing footstep.I spun to the right. A shadow flashed between the trees. My heart began to pound hard. "Who's there?" I shouted.
