Pirates of Nirado River is a great story about friendship, imagination and adventure -- it is a wonderful example of why it is so important to encourage creativity and imagination in children of all ages.

The forests of Northwestern Ontario are home to the Pirates of Nirado River. Captain Corey and his crew like to spend their days fishing and hanging around their cabin.  But one day something strange happens -- Spencer Dann gets kidnapped. The pirates set out to find him. Along the way, other misadventures keep happening. Somebody tries to burn down their cabin and booby-trap their boat. Worst of all, Captain Corey and his boys get blamed for a bunch of things they didn't do. Or did they? Who is causing all the havoc? Join Captain Corey and the Pirates of Nirado River as they try to solve the mystery.

Michael Setala grew up on the family farm in Kaministiquia, Ontario.  He started writing children's books when he was just thirteen years old as a way to entertain himself out on the farm.  Pirates of Nirado River is the first of his book series for children. Michael also owns and operates the historic Kivela Bakery in Thunder Bay.

Editorial Reviews

Here's a delightful book for kids between the ages of seven and 12, sure to satisfy and even spark their imagination. Pirates in Northwestern Ontario! Michael Setala's first published chidlren's book draws on the 'What if......?" part of a child's imagination concerning the immediate area.  Wherever we live, we make our own geography part of our vision of how the world might be. A great addition.  Linda Turk, The Chronicle-Journal.
