Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great D&D Resource! Love this book for playing D&D! Lots of great info for fun games nights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent RPG system. I have always been interested in table-top RPGs and I previously played D&D 4th edition before. However where 4th edition's combat was a chore, 5th edition combat is quick and refreshing. Where 4th edition had a heavy focus on battles, 5th edition places more of the focus on role-playing. While the character creation is not as easy as 4th edition, it is still very do-able without a character creator and nowhere near as painful as in something like 3.5 or Pathfinder. Overall, this is an excellent system for both newbies and veterans alike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Amazing! The 5th Edition Player's Handbook brings D&D back to the core elements that make it an amazing experience to play. Couple that with some new elements and all the details needed to create compelling characters and it's one of the best source books there is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth picking up As a D&D player, new or old, this is a tool worth getting. It has everything you need to navigate through the world your DM will create, the least you can do is be ready and learn your rules/spells or have this at the ready when needed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new best friend As a new player to the world of D&D, I can say for certain the Player's Handbook has been my best friend. It's essential in any D&D game and is worth the investment 100%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Book D&D 5th Edition is definitely the way to go for anyone interested in playing or trying D&D. The 5th Edition is a lot more approachable than past editions of the game. Beautifully put together as well, nice art, as well as well written and explained rules.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome this game provides hours of fun. there are basic rules for free online, but if you decide you like the game, this handbook is worth the price. have fun rolling those dice!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great edition, needs some tweaking I lost interest in 3rd edition and 4th edition just wasn't for me. I had expanded my gaming horizons and found much to offer out there. Thankfully, Wizards of the Coast also took insight from modern gaming and made some wonderful changes. This game feels streamlined and substantial: Backgrounds are integral and thought-provoking, the Advantage/Disadvantage system is elegant and simple and the Classes are built with some good variety within them. Nothing is perfect, but along with the Dungeon Master's Guide, I think that every D&D fan can get an ideal experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time player As a newcomer to D&D, this is a great resource to have. Beautiful artwork and everything is explained very clearly. Definitely a must.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Beginnings As a person that cut his teeth on 4e this was a change of pace for me. I very excited to get my feet wet in this edition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have when you're playing at the table I've only been playing RPGs for the last few years, but for being my first time playing D&D, I like how fifth edition has an easy pickup level, with some nice, more difficult classes for after you've learned. The book is a must-have when at the table playing, and the artwork and text are very good, though I would definitely purchase it when it's on sale, as $60 is a little tough, especially for newer players. But all in all, I say get it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Game I have been playing for years, from first ed all the way to this current one. Book is good. Rules are pretty straight forward for a new player to understand, options for a quick make character are available so makes it easy for a new person to try it out. Book also contains some nice art work, and the flow of chapters is great. On the down side it's a little light on the feat section I thought, and spells you think they could do it the old way and sort by level then by spell name but that's old school :) I'd recommend it of course if your getting into the game, unless you have friend you could borrow a copy from :p

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Return to old school D&D I played for years when I was younger, D&D, AD&D 1st edition, AD&D 2nd edition. I had looked at the 3rd and 4th editions and didn't like them very much. Too many rules and too cumbersome. My friends and I (all 40 and 50 somethings with one token 20 something) started playing again and decided to try the 5th edition. It seems to mark a return to how D&D was when we were younger. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good revision of the classic RPG The basic redone with some of the better changes that have been tested in earlier versions. Some good attempts to encourage role playing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good edition! I love this edition! It keeps the spirit of 3.5, while streaming and simplifying the rules. I am a teacher and I have started a DnD club at my school, and this edition really made my life easier when it comes to explaining the rules to new players.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beginner Player, SO. MUCH. FUN. If you are wondering if you should give D&D a try, I'm here to tell you you definitely should. Even if you are new to Role Playing games, it is easy to get started, and you only have MORE fun the more you play. This book rolls a natural 20 every time ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Edition I was skeptical when I first got this when it came out but after playing it for over two years I must say that 5E has become my favorite editionof DND and this was an excellent start to that. A must have for anyone serious about playing 5E.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best edition so far! I think this is the best edition so far! Simple, yet very precise. It's amazing for both new and experience players! Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very fun! D&D is very fun and the new edition stream lines many aspects to expedite game play. Great illustrations make the book awesome to look at, even if you are simply just casually flipping through. I've played Pathfinder and while I find that there are *some* aspects that are a bit better, overall the 5th edition of D&D I find is a much smoother experience because you spend *less* time having to flip through to check rules than before. This allows you to focus more on the fun stuff: exploring, combat and role playing; with less time having to consult lots of charts and do lots of math.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Introduction Easy to read, easy to use, easy to play. This sums up my experience with this Player's Manual. Those interested in D&D will find a good guide to the game that will answer all of their questions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great resource book This is my first experience as a dungeon master and this book is valuable and full of helpful information. My only complaint is that the binding let go and a 30 page section is now free-floating. For the price of the book I would expect this to be sturdier since it is the main resource for both players and DMs. I love the artwork and layout of the information.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Handbook they got it right, after the fluke of 4th edition, i think this is the best edition since 2nd, if you want to learn to play or wanting to see a new light on your games, please give it a chance, you will be more than happy, trust me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from content is exceptional but binding isn't Keep the receipt. The binding on mine failed and a 30 page section came unglued from the spine. It can be returned at the store but not replaced with in store stock. You have to order online again. Unless you like the $58 price tag for the in store ones.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wizards got it right I suppose we'll never get away from the vancian magic system. You could dream up a spell for virtually everything and any situation.Having said that being a cleric player almost exclusively i can appreciate a simpler more streamlined set of divine spells. As long as you remember to balance your 1 action vs concentration required spells you're okay.My only wish is that for example Detect Magic was made a cantrip, but i certainly can't complain about Revivify. This is a healing clerics dream spell! In previous editions Raise Dead was available as a 7th level spell(14th level PC) or Resurrection 9th level spell(18th level PC).Revivify is a 3rd level divine spell in 5th edition available (5th level PC).The Material component cost is high(300gp in diamonds) and you have a 1 minute window to cast it but it is worth a dragon's trove to a humble low level cleric. In general the divine spells are made to essentials with a wide range of healing magics. The Spell Advancement mechanic and the Domain powers are easily understood.Spell slots give casters flexibility and a simple way to enhance spells without requiring feats or an arcane game mechanic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Start for D This is a huge improvement in production quality from previous editions and this product is equal or better than any pathfinder books coming out. The rules are easy to learn and run. Magic is special and has lots of detail vs. being lumped in with all the other powers in 4th edition. It's so fun to create characters again, even if they are fragile compared to the previous edition. Great work by the team at Wizards of the Coast! This is a must buy and the only book needed to be a player of D

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Welcome Back D After the disappointment that was 4th edition, I was cautious about what to expect with the 5th edition. I'm happy to say that I like what I see. Without rehashing what many other reviewers have written, I can say that it strikes a good balance between the previous editions, and would make a great starting point for new RPG players. My only complaint is the price; $58 for 1/3 of what a DM would need to run a campaign is a little steep, IMHO. However, the art is good, and the quality of the book is high, so this isn't a deal-breaker. If you liked the earlier versions, give this a try; and if you want to start playing for the first time, give this a try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to Basics and the Origin of D The first of the three core rulebooks for Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons returns the game to its roots. It simplifies and streamlines with an elegant set of new rules that are both accessible to beginners and satisfying to veterans - and all of this wrapped up in a beautifully designed handbook that feels absolutely amazing to read and to use. Definitely a featured addition to my 85-book collection of handbooks, supplements and sourcebooks, and will be my group's first edition switch since starting to play six years ago. Coming from 3.5 Edition myself (having skipped 4th edition due to its severe departure from the traditional D
