A contemporary spiritual master shows how living in the present leads to a happier, healthier, more fulfilling lifeMuch more than simple principles and platitudes, The Power of Now takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey isthrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death." Only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment. "

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mind Noise Eckhart Tolle is touted as one of today's most enlightened teachers for penning two of the most groundbreaking spiritual bestselling books of recent times not to mention for his pioneering A New Earth online class which Tolle is currently teaching to the masses with Oprah. The latter is based on his latest bestselling book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose which is making every Christian blogger aflutter with dismay and indignation. In my case, I wanted to embrace Tolle's The Power of Now mostly because it seemed that I could benefit from his teachings in order to live more in the present. During most of my adult years, I have found myself significantly melancholic about the past and always dreaming of the future. In other words, I scarcely live in the moment. At the outset, The Power of Now proved to be slightly uninviting and interwoven with too much techno-spiritual jargon. . . for the five times that I attempted to read it. Nevertheless, I picked it up once again on the week-end and found myself identifying with Tolle's enthusiastic and succint prose which can be a bit off-putting to the uninitiated. Unlike most self-help gurus, Tolle has a humbling presence and his self-deprecating mannerisms speak well to me. In particular, The Power of Now does not preach to the masses regardless of what the blogosphere seems to conjecture. In my humble opinion, Tolle provides the spiritual, psychological, and quasi-academic tools to enable everyone to see the truth that already lies within us. Indeed, my keen observation and analytical skills were interlaced with Tolle's teachings. As a young girl, I was quite introspective and over the course of my reading, I was struck how in tune I was to the concepts Tolle was prothelizing because they were echoes of my own thoughts and observations which have lay dormant recently. In The Power of Now, Tolle is resolute to wake us up from our collective stupor and emotional numbness with a particular focus on our intrinsic psyche and problems. Indeed, in this society where personal responsibility is a dead concept it is a lesson well-learned for all of us. In fact, Tolle's teachings are reminiscent of the late Father de Mello's spiritual blatherings in the posthumously published Awareness. Both teachers set out to remind us to be truly present and mindful in our lives which is the most beautiful lesson that we should heed in these tenuous times that we live in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life changing I was not expecting much when I started this book. As a science student, I tend to steer clear of "wishy washy" techniques for happiness, but I decided to give this book a try despite the title. The beginning half of this book is phenomenal. Eckhart Tolle uses simple explanations that can change your entire perspective on life. The second half of the book was a bit harder to follow, but I would still recommend this book solely based on the concepts presented in the first half.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Message but lot's of repeat I liked the message in this book and found it inspiring but it felt like so much of the same throughout the book. The information didn't feel fresh as it went on and it felt like there was just a lot of the author saying the same thing over and over again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spiteful Maybe not an appropriate review title, but I have to say that I was taken aback by Eckhart Tolle's writing in this novel. Having already read and loved A New Earth, I though this book was written with bittern, jaded disappointment in the human society. I did not find much inspiration or value in this novel, which will come as surprise to almost every one, but the truth is I did not like it. However, there were some redeemable moments in the chapters. Some that I liked very much, but certainly not enough to redeem the book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely great This is a wonderful set of CD's that has a very calming effect on the listener. Now is important not what happened yesterday or what could happen tomorrow. We don't spend enough time in the Now and this set of CD's helps get you there

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Power of Now This book provided me with the best explanation for why our lives do not work and what we can do about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Find the narrow gate that leads to life It was very important that this author mentioned how he set-up this book, otherwise, people would be reading it just on the surface (which included alot of religious/spiritual quotes that some people may not relate to) and not see the underlying meaning of what he is trying to convey. All the jargon like pain-bodies, mental noise, surrender, etc are used to illustrate complex ideas in a simplistic way. This book showed me a new way of thinking and also helped me deal with alot of unresolved emotional pain that I couldn't find a way to get out. I can go to sleep at night feeling peace because instead of dwelling on the past and worrying about what the future might bring, I am living in the "Now."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Valuable Guide Eckhart Tolle weaves together a masterpiece for how we can all live in the now. If living mindfully in the present seems like an impossibility, this book will serve as a valuable guide. Written in everyday language this book is as practical as it is profound.
