"Unabashedly uplifting."
Set in a world torn apart, where man enslaves his fellow man and freedom remains elusive, THE POWER OF ONE is the moving story of one young man's search for the love that binds friends, the passion that binds lovers, and the realization that it takes only one to change the world. A weak and friendless boy growing up in South Africa during World War II, Peekay turns to two older men, one black and one white, to show him how to find the courage to dream, to succeed, to triumph over a world when all seems lost, and to inspire him to summon up the most irrersistible force of all: the Power of One.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't put it down! This is the second Bryce Courtenay book that I read. After reading Whithorne, I had to read more. This book was just as good, if not better. It is impossible not to fall in love with the characters and the story. It's heartbreaking and inspirational at the same time. I recommend this book to many friends and have never had anyone tell me they didn't love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My all time favourite story I love this book and have read it many times and lent it to all of my reader friends. The characters, the setting it's all captivating and heartfelt. An amazing read that will captivate you. The movie is also very well done and stays to the storyline of the book which rarely seems to happen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite book of all time This is hands down my favourite book of all time. I first read it about 10 years ago and have continued to read it about once a year. I'm ordering my hardcover copy right now, paperbacks wear out too quickly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be better Alright, I understand the attraction to this book based on the subject matter, but did the guy actually have an editor? This book is extremely predictable, anti-climactic and repetitive. It was interesting enough to get me to the end, but I caught myself rolling my eyes way too many times. It has the potential to be a great book, it just needs some work.
