Mason Alexander thought all he wanted in life was something to call his own—something without the family name attached. He got that when he bought his bar in Blackcreek...but then a hard truth opens his eyes that he’s been lied to his whole life, and he’s tangled amid the family that loves him, a truth that haunts him, and torn between the life he wants for himself and the obligation he feels for his family.

Gavin Davis knows a thing or two about living a double life. Being a gay man with strict Christian parents who believe he’s going to Hell, has never been easy. Instead of dealing, Gavin lost himself in his career. Teaching music gives him solace. So when he loses his job at a private school for helping out a gay kid, he feels like he lost more than a job. He lost his identity.

Blackcreek is a new start for both of them, two men, loyal to a fault, who both feel obligated to people in their lives. What Mason and Gavin don’t expect to find in each other is the place where they can be real. They know they want each other, it’s the rest of it they can’t figure out. Caught between loyalty, obligation, fear, tragedy and family, Mason and Gavin’s lives threaten to pull them away from each other if they don’t get real, and stop playing pretend, for good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretend .....great.. Iloved this book. A mutual attraction that helped bothMc's work through their family drama. Eventually love wins out. Also good to see other characters from the seris. 5*s.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Give me more of Blackcreek! Mason is torn between doing what he feels is right for himself and helping his family. He’s loyal to a fault and when he finds out the truth about his family he is torn apart and questioning everything. Gavin recently lost his job by trying to help someone. It was the right thing to do, but the school he worked and the boys parents didn’t see it that way. So he moves back to Blackcreek without putting up a fight. It’s a new beginning for him, one he so desperately needs. When Mason and Gavin first meet they are up front with their thoughts and it works for them. But will a relationship work with the two that pretend to be someone their not? Pretend didn’t do it for me like the first two books in the series did. Don’t get me wrong I loved it, but I thought it could use a little bit more oomph. I felt as though Mason took Gavin for granted when Gavin stepped up to help Mason and I gotta see Mason should have seen where Gavin was coming from when it came to Isaac. He had a right to be jealous. Though I liked how they had they found themselves so that they could be good partners to each other. Hopefully there will be more in this series.
