Beloved by millions the world over, Pride and Prejudice is delightfully transformed in this bold new manga adaptation. In a remote English village, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, a not-so-well-to do country squire and his wife, must marry off their five vivacious daughters. At the very center of this all-consuming enterprise are the headstrong second daughter, Elizabeth and her aristocratic suitor Mister Darcy, two lovers in whom pride and prejudice must be overcome before love can bring the story to its magnificent conclusion. All of the joy, heartache, and romance of Jane Austen's original, Pride & Prejudice is perfectly illuminated by the sumptuous art of manga-ka Po Tse, and faithfully adapted by Stacy E. King.
Jane Austen was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Rated 3 out of 5 by from It......could have been better While very beautiful, this adaptation does leave out a couple important scene and takes away the depth of a couple characters. In fact, there are a handful of characters that could have been left out altogether and a new reader would have been none the wiser. And that pacing was all over the place. However, there are moments in the manga which are rather humorous and I'd recommend this based on that. Though, if you were a new reader or someone wanting a faithful manga adaptation of the original novel, then I'd recommend you to skip this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best of both worlds come together in harmony!!!! I’ve always been a big Otaku since I was quite young. Then when I went to high school I became a big fan of classic literature. So mostly what I read is manga/graphic novels and classics works. And then this happens!!!!! The best of both worlds come together in harmony!!!! The classic love story of Pride and Prejudice but with gorgeous tradition manga drawings. The drawings are very clean, beautiful and detailed. The characters all look splendid and all have their own look that makes it easy to identify who is who to a fan without evening knowing. The details on the clothes and background are exquisite. These are some of the best manga drawing I’ve seen in a while; they’re no panel that is nothing less than clean, precise and beautiful. And we even have the traditional Ghibi that are here and there. Some people find it take away from the story. But I find those the part that reminds you it’s still a manga, the Ghibi’s appear at the silly moment and I find they’re always perfectly time for the humor and always make me giggle. I’ve read a few manga classics like this one and I find this one is here the Ghibi fit best. Because compared to a lot of other words there humour in this story. From Ms. Bennet and M. Collins, they’re the silly characters and the Ghibi moment fit well because the humour is there. Great decision to have the books available in paperback and hard cover editions. You can have the manga’s tradition paperback or the traditional hardcover from classic period novels. Two worlds come together and I can’t wait to have more of them in my collection.

Editorial Reviews

If you're a fan of the Pride and Prejudice classic and its movie, then I highly recommend you to read this manga.: Five Stars!"The transition from book to manga was well done... It translated the book to manga, while still staying true to the story, which I really appreciated. Honestly, I thought it was just lovely." - Five Stars! Barnes and"P&P is an overly dramatic, incredibly silly romance with much miscommunication and swooning. It's a perfect shojo story though and transforms into manga very well. This is a great starter for kids or someone who wants to know the story. Or, like me, one who likes to experience the classics in all formats. " - Four Stars! Library"
