The dragons that have been kept in sanctuaries want their freedom—and their revenge—and the world’s only hope is the reformation of the ancient order of Dragonwatch in this New York Times bestselling first novel of a new sequel series to Fablehaven from author Brandon Mull.

In the hidden dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost, Celebrant the Just, King of the Dragons, plots his revenge. He has long seen the sanctuaries as prisons, and he wants nothing more than to overthrow his captors and return the world to the Age of Dragons, when he and his kind ruled and reigned without borders. The time has come to break free and reclaim his power.

No one person is capable of stopping Celebrant and his dragon horde. It will take the ancient order of Dragonwatch to gather again if there is any chance of saving the world from destruction. In ancient times, Dragonwatch was a group of wizards, enchantresses, dragon slayers, and others who originally confined the majority of dragons into sanctuaries. But nearly all of the original Dragonwatch members are gone, and so the wizard Agad reaches out to Grandpa Sorenson for help.

As Kendra and Seth confront this new danger, they must draw upon all their skills, talents, and knowledge as only they have the ability to function together as a powerful dragon tamer. Together they must battle against forces with superior supernatural powers and breathtaking magical abilities.

How will the epic dragon showdown end? Will dragons overthrow humans and change the world as we know it?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Youthful Before I purchased it, I suspected Dragonwatch: A Fablehaven Adventure wouldn't be a terrific read, but I decided to try it anyway. Most unfortunately, Dragonwatch lived up to my suspicions. It is, however, a source of entertainment for younger readers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insta-Fave There are many things to be said about this book, but first, I think that Mr. Mull deserves a round of applause for accomplishing what not many writers can boast: keeping the exact same personalities, plots, format, writing style, and charm of a story and characters after a period of seven years of inactivity. Seriously--it's impressive. Kendra and Seth are exactly the same. I don't mean "the same" as in the same way they were at the beginning of the Fablehaven series, but rather, it's like Mull literally just picked up the story from where he left it off at the end of his previous series, and as such, this book is exactly like the continuation that all readers were hoping for. Having re-read the original book series specifically in anticipation for this novel, I think that my opinion in stating the direct continuity between the two series, despite the seven year gap between them, may be taken in account when judging whether or not the Dragonwatch series is a worthy successor to the Fablehaven series. Trust me: IT IS THE ABSOLUTE PERFECT CONTINUATION. Kendra and Seth are still as in-character as ever, exactly where we left them off at the end of the first series. Kendra's still responsible and hesitant in waltzing into danger or taking serious risks, but it's obvious that she's gotten more courageous than before and doesn't shy away from hazardous (but necessary) situations as she did in the past. As for Seth, he's still adventurous and takes more risks than he should, but he's also grown more cautious, smart, and selective about what risks to take, mainly only going for the ones that he knows will pay off and that are worth it in the first place. They've both matured, in short. A lot of the characters from the original series are brought back, whereas others are just mentioned offhand, not active characters in themselves. That's okay though, because, just like the changing of the series titles from "Fablehaven" to "Dragonwatch", it makes sense, because the story's not able Fablehaven as a preserve anymore, but rather, focuses on the Dragon Sanctuaries instead. (Some of the events in the book still take place at Fablehaven, but the main focus really isn't there anymore.) So, yes, this is technically a new series, but no one will understand it if they don't read Fablehaven first. It's a sequel that upholds all of the dignity, adventure, fun, intrigue, suspense, and creativity of the original. And, like for the original, I just couldn't put it down once I got started. Once again, congratulations to Mr. Mull for being able to uphold all of these wonderful elements from the original series, and please continue to maintain the foundation you've built upon, enough to five us another five-book series that you're intending! For 2018, I look forward to reading the second official Dragonwatch novel. I won't even borrow it from a library or anything the first time; I'll just buy it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dragonwatch (Fablehaven Adventure #1) by Brandon Mull The FABLEHAVEN universe is a hugely appealing one for young readers who like magical adventures. Another fabulous, wonderful addition, no extra, to the series that fans not only weren't expecting but are over the moon thrilled with. Well done Mister Mull in once again resurrecting a series that many have not forgotten and will live on in their hearts and minds. Dragonwatch picks up right where (and when) Keys to the Demon Prison left off, and there are many, many references to events and characters from the prior books in the FABLEHAVEN series. Although Brandon Mull fills in much of the backstory, I’d strongly recommend reading the entire set of FABLEHAVEN books before beginning this one.
