He’s been a bad, bad rake—and it takes a governess to teach him a lesson

The accidental governess

After her livelihood slips through her fingers, Alexandra Mountbatten takes on an impossible post: transforming a pair of wild orphans into proper young ladies. However, the girls don’t need discipline. They need a loving home. Try telling that to their guardian, Chase Reynaud: duke’s heir in the streets and devil in the sheets. The ladies of London have tried—and failed—to make him settle down. Somehow, Alexandra must reach his heart . . . without risking her own.

The infamous rake

Like any self-respecting libertine, Chase lives by one rule: no attachments. When a stubborn little governess tries to reform him, he decides to give her an education—in pleasure. That should prove he can’t be tamed. But Alexandra is more than he bargained for: clever, perceptive, passionate. She refuses to see him as a lost cause. Soon the walls around Chase’s heart are crumbling . . . and he’s in danger of falling, hard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another great read from Tessa Dare! An enjoyable story of Alex and Chase and the 2 wards, Rosamund and Daisy. Chase was really tortured by his past, which seemed a bit far-fetched, considering he couldn’t very well be expected to babysit his adult cousin. And it seemed a bit far fetched that he was this fantastic lover but never consummated his recent one night stands! But I’m willing to overlook a lot when it comes to Tessa Dare. She’s written better but this was still worth the effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dare + Wells = Perfection! The Governess Game by Tessa Dare (Audiobook) Narrated by Mary Jane Wells Series: Girl Meets Duke book 2 5 stars! LOVED it! Tessa Dare and Mary Jane Wells make such a fantastic pair! I was laughing all throughout the book. Alex and Chase were wonderful together, the two young wards made for amusing situations and I loved watching how the adults navigated them. Tessa Dare's writing was great and Mary Jane Wells performance just put it over the top! So glad I chose this audiobook! If you haven't read the first book in this series, The Duchess Deal please do so. I loved it too! ~ Paragraphs and Petticoats ~

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun! I liked how Alexandra was falling in love with Chase and his two charges, Rosamund and Daisy. It was interesting how she earned the trust of these two orphan girls while forging a relationship with Chase, who didn't think he deserved any affection. These four characters really carried the story along and I cared for all of them. They had their reasons for acting and thinking the way they do and I wanted to see how their perspectives of the world changed the more they interacted with one another. Chase had the biggest character development since his reluctance to involve himself, in Rosamund and Daisy's care and committing to a relationship with Alexandra, were the biggest obstacles in the story. Nonetheless, the explanation behind Chase's inability to love other people was so overdramatic. This explanation didn't make sense to me. Chase's detachment to everyone was such an overreaction to this event. My actual problem with this book was Ash. I just read The Duchess Deal where Ash is a main character and he makes cameos in this book. I liked Ash in The Duchess Deal. I didn't like him here. His sole purpose was to warn Alexandra of how Chase would be a bad romantic interest, and then act like a creepy, entitled older brother/father figure who would shake his fist at Chase for even looking at Alex and threaten him with bodily harm. Ash was so irrational, his Shakespearean swearing can off annoying when I thought it was funny in his own book, and he felt like a cheap imitation of himself. Despite my complaints about Chase's backstory and Ash's out-of-character antics, I genuinely did enjoy this story. I loved everything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intelligent and Sexy The Girl Meets Duke series is so addictive! I loved The Duchess Deal and couldn't wait for the next book. Full of steam, wit and a bit of drama The Governess Game did not let me down! Ms. Alexandra Mountbatten is a riot with her daydreams about the mystery bookstore guy/Chase. She fantasies and chastises herself all at the same time. It was hilarious and so endearing. Alex is also the rare type of heroine that doesn't get intimidated easily. I love how candid she was with her opinions and feelings. Whenever Chase was being negative, she lets him know what she thought. Chase was way too melodramatic about his past. I get that he's tortured by the mistake he made but I so badly wanted to slap some sense into him too. He should appreciate what he has in the present and stop pushing what's good (aka Alex) away. Their sex scenes were raw and honest. I was surprised to learn of Chase's sexual restraint so it was extra satisfying to see him let go with Alex ;) Chase's two wards were precious little things. The girls had odd interests and were somewhat difficult to manage but they were very lovable. You can't help but laugh at their mostly innocent but also super sneaky displays. The Governess Game didn't hint at the next coupling so I'm officially dying of curiosity. It's going to be a long wait till the next book comes out but given how much I enjoyed this sequel I have no doubt this will be a worthwhile wait!!
