Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the time I made the mistake of reading this book at a very young age (around 13) which I would not recommend. It comes off a bit pushy and isn't great for someone who is very easily impressionable. However, it did offer quite a bit of insight, but I still recommend doing further research of your own before making any life changes. I will say that it motivated me to become more aware of the food industry and do some research of my own but if you're really interested in what this book has to offer, you might as well just do some Googling and find the same, if not more accurate information. Overall, not worth the read.

Anyone who has taken food science or basic biology and physiology at University will find this painful to read. The author knows little to nothing about GMOs or nutrition and devotes an entire chapter to promoting and advertising certain organic food brands. Look for something more educational.

A good start in reading material for people who want to eat healthier food, or find out where there food is coming from, and question what is actually on the plate in front of you.

I also found they recommended a lot of processed vegan foods, I don't particularly see that as being the healthiest option, either. If you are looking to convert to a plant-based diet, there are other books with a more uplifting tone, that are equally easy-to-understand. I would recommend "Crazy Sexy Diet" or "The Kind Diet"

At parts where the author's were talking about all the ingredients I guess it could get boring, but the actual truth of you are what you eat, is great! I cut tons of foods out of my diet and am alot happier nd have more energy everyday! I actually fall asleep easier as well with my new diet! I would recommend this book to everyone, especially stubborn people like myself!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No-nonsense Eye Opener I ordered this book and read it in a few days. It's a condensed easy-reading book that shoots straight to the point. I love how these girls really cut through everyone's crap and self made agendas. No matter what way you put it killing animals for food is cruel. We ALL know this and may try to convince ourselves that they are put down "humanely" and "without suffering". It's bull. They suffer. We cause this suffering. I have not eaten meat since I read the book. I wiffle waffled with vegetarianism for years and would use these excuses to enjoy chicken wings or a burger. If you choose to make a difference then you must stick to your guns. I have read "The Atkins Diet" and applied it's principles, I have read the "Clean Eating" Diet and tried that diet. I've used "The Zone" diet and numerous other diets. I think that this book is a way of life and not a diet. I have applied the principles of the book and although I do have some milk products occasionally I have completely obliterated meat and meat products from my food intake. It's not easy....nothing worthwhile in life is. Bottom line - we have the choice to make a difference in the lives of others and ourselves. At least give the ideas a chance. See how you feel and then go from there. I find that most peope seem so defensive in their reviews. I think they just are in denial. I personally can not look at a slab of meat the same way. If you are so dead-set on eating meat then go kill it yourself. Maybe that will shed some light on the situation. Everyone has the ability to apply free will. I have personally made vegetarianism a way of life for MYSELF. My family is not on the same track but I do not bully them or cajole them for what they eat. I am hoping that they will see the compassion behind my choice in general. Oh and I have lost 10 lbs. so far just by applying the eating principles. So that is a good side note. I feel better and read every label now to see what is in the stuff I am ingesting. I highly recommend this book. It is written with humour and just plain honesty. We can live in denial but will eventually have to face the facts sooner or later.

First, this book promotes veganism by telling you what is really in your meat and dairy products, what they are, and what it does to your body, both short and long term. So if you still want to eat meat and dairy, buy ONLY from local farmer's in your area (and keep in mind organic does not mean it's totally healthy, and free-range is the same thing), otherwise you are completely missing the point of this book. It's meant to make you face the truth about your food, and if you can't handle that, then don't even bother. I loved the book because it helped me learn more about veganism, and the reasons the every day food won't help you stay in shape and live a long healthy life, that the 5 food groups is a crock of sh*t and all we need is a good variety of fruits, veggies, and grains. I also loved the very upfront approach these ladies give, because enough is enough, no use in lying or being all sweet and kind with the topics on losing weight because obviously that doesn't accomplish anything, and most people need a hard slap in the face to make it sink in. For the reviews below that only b*tch about the girls being vegan...uh, DUH! The best way to eat healthy is BY EATING HEALTHY. That means no meat or dairy products because they aren't good for you! They can't just write to not eat it without an explanation, and they explain it in full detail so you'll get the point. If you continue eating all that sh*t after reading this book then you are a f*cking MORON and won't ever get fit and lose weight and be truly healthy. So yes, eating vegan is very necessary and easy to do -trust me. It's not unattainable, just to the morons who don't actually try. So if you want to be a skinny b*tch, do something about it. Don't make up stupid excuses of why this would never work for you and JUST DO IT.

I like that these two are straight to the point and tell it like it is. I didn't like so much how they tried to push veganism, but at the end tell the readers we don't have to be vegans and do whatever we want. I will admit that after reading this book, I have gone out and bought Vegan Cookbooks just so I can live a healthier life. I will definately recommend this book to all my girlfriends who eat crap!!!!!!!

Okay, I'll admit I thought it would be a great book to read and thought it would get me more motivated into wanting to lose weight but it just really p*ssed me off, while I read it. The book was fine at the beginning but then it just got more cruel and irritating. Sure eating food that is from the ground like veggies, fruits, grains and all that is good for you but all they could do was b*tch and b*tch. Anyways, I really, really wish I hadn't bought the book but I don't have to worry since I have the receipt and I am going to return it. Anyways, so if you were wondering about the book and were thinking about buying it, don't, you'll just end up regretting it, especially if your ideal plan is to not become a vegan. And just warning it's not a nice and pleasant story.

But honestly, this book is MUCH more than that. These girls did their homework. This book does have themes supporting a vegan lifestyle, both in the name of health and protecting animals that I did not anticipate. I don't know if I will become a vegan, but I certainly am inspired by their passion, research and information. I decided to take the 30 day vegan challenge to see what it is like. With all these new diet fads popping up everywhere it's hard to find a healthy balance that works for you, and one you can truly believe in. This book lays out the hard truth about foods today. It is based mostly around a vegan lifestyle. The book is educational and uses facts with proof and resources to back them up. The authors explore areas such as truth about dairy & carbs, the farm industry & government aswell as animal cruelty. Skinny B*tch does not preach and pressure, but allows you to make your own assumptions and decisions (which I believe most people would agree with the book before they even finish it). The authors have written the book in a way that is geared towards females. They use harsh language some people might say, but they talk to the reader as if they were her best friend. What better way to get a females attention then to slap her in the face with the harsh truth. Skinny B*tch is the perfect book for any firey woman looking to feel better about herself, and even bring out the savviness in the quiet girl. Your knowledge about food and a healthy lifestyle is sure to increase after reading this book. I would also predict that after reading the book you will fall in love with the lifestyle and will not be able to wait to dive in!

From the cover it seemed like a practical guide for women who need to get motivated and start changing their eatting habits that fits their busy lives, etc. The first couple of chapters seemed to fit into this assumption with some humour mixed in, however by the chapter that attempts to debunk the Atkins diet philosophy it was all down hill from there. After this they went on to talk about how terrible the meat and dairy industries are, "inhumane" slaughter practices, and how you shouldn't trust government regulations. Working for a meat company I know for a fact that all meat companies DO NOT use inhumane practices. I have been to a kill floor and although it's not pleasant, it's certainly NOT what they describe in this book. The only chapter that really seemed worth while was one of the last instructing you to use your own brain. So that's what I suggest with this book....if you don't want to be vegan and spend tons of money on organic foods, don't waste your money and don't buy this book because it's the only advice that it really gives.

Anywho, the cover describes the book as a no-nonsense, tough-love guide for savvy girls who blah blah blah. I don't even know where to start...I guess 'no-nonsense' would be a good place since I found this book full of nonsense! Granted there were some good basic points in the book that cannot be refuted or denied, regardless of who holds a whatever kind of degree in anything, trying to write an intelligent book that you want people to take seriously cannot have a sentence like, "...shut the f*ck up, look at an inspirational picture of a skinny b*tch and clean out your freezer." (pg. 53) *wrinkles nose* To me it just seems so...tacky. When I was younger I read an interview with Will Smith and he was talking about how his grandmother saw some of his earlier lyrics and told him off for having expletives in it. She said that "intelligent people do not use these words to express themselves," and I have kept that with me ever since. If it is not acceptable to write profanity in a scientific peer-reviewed journal, then you don't write a 'self-help' book that you want other people to take seriously. Not ONLY does it have profanity in the way I just illustrated, it goes on to swear and mock the reader, ie. "Coffee is for p*ssies," (pg. 15) and the ever amusing, "Get your head out of your as$. Milk = fat. Butter = fat. Cheese = fat. People who think these products can be low fat or fat free = f*cking morons." (pg. 63) and "Don't be a cheap as$hole." (pg. 179). Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Inspired to feel good about yourself now? I know I certainly do! *feel the sarcasm here, please* If those lovely tid-bits of inspirational goodies didn't convince you of these ladies' credibility, let's look at some of their actual recommendations: "Health is Wealth makes fake buffalo wings that taste so good, your pubes will fall out." (pg. 54). WOW! Now don't get me wrong here. I am not being a prude or uptight. I can cuss it up with the best of them and can even string a few along to make one messed up sentence you'll have to pause to make sense of what I just said - that's not the point. I will not write it in a novel I'd like to have published and then expect to be taken seriously. Having those little gems in there is not no-nonsense and it is not tough-love and it does not imply savviness. It's trash masking biased, misleading and misrepresented data. Getting into the nitty gritty of the book as a whole. What the authors are saying is that to be a Skinny B*tch you must do this: Give up dairy. Give up meat. That's it. No two ways about it. It doesn't offer any helpful tips on how to improve your diet, it pretty much tells you to radically change your diet and then goes on to give 'scientific fact' on why veganism is the way to go. If you're not looking to go vegan, tough cookies. Is it safe to suggest to the readers out there to cut out ALL forms of meat, dairy, poultry and seafood in order to get skinny? I highly doubt it. Like I said before, the book has some very good points (if you can read in between the lines that are so desperately shouting 'trying too hard to be "savvy" there are some facts there that even the newbie dieter should have already picked up. Nothing new there. Besides spouting the nothing new factoids, the rest of the book pretty much goes on to paint a completely negative picture of the farming industry, the FDA and the cruelty to animals. I get it girls, you are not big fans of meat or the government. In fact, this theme is so apparent in the book that it should have actually been titled "Skinny B*tches B*tch about Government Agencies." They have a WHOLE 23-page chapter entitled: "Have No Faith: Government Agencies Don't Give a Sh*t About Your Health. To have the gall to create a chapter titled that, you'd better give me more than 23 pages of facts, data and proof to support your claim. The funny thing is, when I said that 23 pages was too short to form a solid foundation to uphold such a theory, this chapter is probably the longest of all the other chapters in the 191-page book. Interesting... I am so downright irritated by this book I can't even keep my jaw shut. The short version of the review is this: if you are not planning on giving up meat, dairy or poultry you are a "f*cking fat pig moron" (all quoted words are taken directly from the book.) If you are looking for a way to better improve your diet, if you are looking for tips and suggestions on what you could add to supplement your diet, this is NOT the book for you. Save yourself $16 (which is what I paid for this ridiculous "book" - thank GOODNESS I didn't get the gift set) and research other books with better reviews or with sound/scientific/proven data that attempts to make the person you are BETTER and not radically change you from the person you are into a b*tch...albeit a skinny one.

Whether or not you choose to listen to what the book suggests, you should read it just to make you more aware and informed. One of a few great and important books that people need to read to understand the importance of what we eat and where it comes from.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover - Even if You READ the cover! I was looking for a book with sound nutritional advise that is reasonable and informative. Based on the blurb on the back cover and flipping through the first couple of chapters I chose this book. MISTAKE! The first couple of chapters are informative and make a lot of sense with regard to the downfalls of sugar and Aspartane. But the REST of the book is the Author's personal rant about the meat and dairy industry. The last 3/4 of the book is a one sided argument and it seemed to me that the "information" was really misinformed opinion presented as fact. There is a chapter near the end entitled "Use Your Head" and the most useful advice in the entire book is "Forget what you've ever read, or learned and just think for yourself." Are you kidding me? I just paid $14.95 for your book and spent 3 hours reading it and you tell me to "Forget everything " I read? Who ARE these women? If you are looking for a balanced sensible eating plan then this book is not for you. It is a book pushing the vegan lifestyle, advocates fasting and refers to the reader as a "fat pig" or "moron" several times. I would recommend the Beck Diet Solution.

It's entertaining (warning for some: there is the occasional swearing & crude comments) and is filled with information on living a cruelty free life. Most certainly controversial and definitely eye opening, "Skinny B**ch" left me wanting more from these authors. I would definitely recommend this book for those interested in vegetarianism, veganism and living a healthy life. Excellent read!

Little did I know that it's actually about why you should go VEGAN. The battle cry of "eat soy" for protien isn't an option for everyone. Some of us actually need meats and cheese to make up a healthy diet. And if being VEGAN is so fabulous then why all the "fake" meat products on the market? If I'm eating healthy the VEGAN way why would I put highly processed soy products made to look like beef or chicken into my body? If you're vegan and it works for you that's awesome, but don't push it on other people. I doubt their sales of the book would have even amounted to a quarter of what they were if they'd called it "Go Vegan and Get Skinny"....... How about a little truth in advertising for a change?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for some. This was an informative book. I definitely had fun reading it with a highlighter in hand. it really makes you think about what you are eating. Although it is important to keep in mind that these happenings take place in the United States, and for us Canadians the health standards in farms are different. It seemed like this book was just a looong pamphlet on "BE VEGAN NOW!" Sort of how Evolution was a loooong Head and Shoulders commercial. Personally this book was for me. I had been thinking about changing my eating habits already. I am not vegan, but I am a pescetarian. My ultimate advice about this book is to check it out at the library before you buy it. It won't do you any good if you aren't looking to change yourself or are a dedicated omnivore.

Somehow, the novelty of having two melodramatic orthorexics verbally abuse me and spout medical misinformation loses its thrill about thirty pages in. A degree in holistic nutritional studies does not a doctor make, nor does being a "self-taught know-it-all", as the authors profess to be. In addition to touting some of the worst medical advice I've ever heard in my life, the authors manage to completely toe the line of "bitchy" straight into utterly inappropriate. If you need to be sworn at and told you have cankles in order to be motivated to lose weight, perhaps you should put down this book and consult a psychiatrist.

It teaches you the facts about the food that is HORRIBLE for you and what you are putting into your body!!! This book is all about a HEALTHIER YOU!!! But learning to eat veggies only and how to fast starting off with a raw food fast and working your way to a water only fast????? Uuuum I don't know I think despite the authors' insisting they don't promote anorexia I find it hard to believe that two former models with very raw writing style are promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Especially the raw, slightly harsh and in your face attitude by the authors that gives the reader a kick in the butt to change her health and her life. The facts given are shocking and should inspire anyone to change the way the eat, which if done correctly, will definitely make a difference in their overall health and weight.

So here I am, browsing through the book, and I felt as if I found my new best friend! The two authors, who happens to be a former model with a holistic nutrition degree and a former agent for Ford Models, narrates the book with that “in-your-face” attitude which makes you (the reader) more listen to what they have to say. Unlike other books which makes you feel distant to the authors, this book felt more personal and became my guidance.
