In August of 1914, the explorer Ernest Shackleton set sail across the South Atlantic with a crew of 75 men, his goal to explore Antarctica on foot. Long before they reached their destination, the crew and their ship, ice locked the Endurance in her place. The next year passed in unimaginable loss and hardship, as the men laboriously broke through the ice to cross approximately 900 miles of ice and treacherous seas to the nearest point of civilization. Endurance features interviews with the expedition’s 10 survivors, excerpts from eight other crew members’ journals and special maps and illustrations.
