about

During World War I, Canada implemented the Canadian Internment Operations and held more than 8,000 people prisoner in the 24 camps across the country. Many of these prisoners were Ukrainians who came to Canada to work in industry and settle in western Canada. Between 1915 and 1917, more than 600 prisoners were put to work in Rocky Mountain Park, also known as Banff National Park. Shadow of the Rockies is a diary of their lives in the camp and offers details of Canada's practices in the early 1900s.
