about

The story was all too real-indeed this classic was inspired by the real-life story of Ed Gein, a psychotic murderer who led a dual life. Alfred Hitchcock too was captivated, and turned the book into one of the most-loved classic films of all time the year after it was released. Norman Bates loves his Mother. She has been dead for the past twenty years, or so people think. Norman knows better though. He has lived with Mother ever since leaving the hospital in the old house up on the hill above the Bates motel. One night Norman spies on a beautiful woman that checks into the hotel as she undresses. Norman can't help but spy on her. Mother is there though. She is there to protect Norman from his filthy thoughts. She is there to protect him with her butcher knife.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thrilling Classic This was a quick but thoroughly enjoyable read. I had never seen any of the movies so I found this rather thrilling. Would go nicely as an October pre Halloween read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read! I wish you could get more insight into Norman's mind. If you have not seen the movie or the TV series this book will be very captivating for you! The last page of the book gave me chills! Short, easy, and creepy read! Props to Bloch for coming up with this amazing story that has inspired so many people to make movies and a TV series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nobody beats Norman Bates in the crazy department! I watched Bates Motel the TV series before I read this book. Although the show is definitely creepier, the book is great and gives the chilling effect all the same!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expected more I've seen all seasons of Bates Motel which I know is loosely based on this book. I ordered it, and truth t be told, I was disappointed. I expected more. It was still a good read though, just not enough story or excitement.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chilling I've never seen the film because I can't stomach horror movies but I just had to read the book and I was very satisfied with it. It's super creepy and I can absolutely see why the story is so iconic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good! For having such a famous plot (due to the movies and TV series), this novel still holds up and delivers a great story that pulls you in and keeps you reading. No huge surprises if you already know the story, but enjoyable nonetheless!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Psycho Psycho is amazing. The book is definitely creepier than the movie. I read it in a night and couldn't put it down. Definitely worth a read!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Creepy Having never really read the horror genre before, I didn't have much to compare Psycho to. However, I will say that it was a fantastic way to start off reading horror. The story flows well, is easy to follow, doesn't drag on for too long, and at the end I actually felt a little chilly. And the shower scene was - dare I say it - scarier than in Hitchcock's film. I'd definitely recommend reading this book, even if you've already seen the movie. I promise you'll still be creeped out.
