Side reactions are frequently eliminated so that the overall yield of the desired product is increased.

R. Alan Jones is a Senior Fellow at the University of East Anglia, where he held the position of Dean of the School of Chemical Sciences until 1997. He spent a period on the Faculty at the University of Adelaide, holds a Sc.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and a degree from the University of Oxford.
