Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Book. 4th instalment of an excellent series A couple months ago, a friend recommended me the Throne of Glass series. Knowing her to be a book enthusiast, I followed her recommendation and found a thrilling series full of twists and turns. I bought the book on sale on indigo.ca so I got the book for only $7, but it's still a great book nonetheless. I recommend it for anyone ages 10 and up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Queen of Shadows It is one of the best books in the series. Although I do not think the incest in the series is necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4.5 Star-Read My only complaint about this book is the sheer size and weight of it. I love a good, juicy, thick book, but at times this particular story seemed to have no end to it. Of course, I was probably snarling and annoyed at one or more of the characters at the time, but still - as much as I love SJM, sometimes there's just too much. However, I still thoroughly enjoyed myself with this one, aching wrists and all (lifting this book to read it felt like arm day at the gym), and I am very much looking forward to what SJM has planned for the next book in this series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVED THIS!! Epic series. Period. Awesome heroin, but I really love her worthy enemies (like the white haired witch) more. So many epic things and events happen in this book. My family kept looking at me weird when I was shouting with glee while reading this book. Can't stop fan-girling. Need more books like these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good set up This is definitely another book where it's just setting up for a grand finale, but as that it was that, it did feel a little slow in some parts. I do have to say though, Manon is definitely growing on me. I thought she was a fantastic character in HoF but she's grown a lot in this book and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for everyone come the next two books. One thing that was a huge plus was seeing Lysandra again and seeing exactly how different her life was from Aelin's and how it shaped her. I looove the addition of their friendship in this :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG MY HEART BEST BOOK IN THE SERIES BY FAR HOLY COW!!! I could not put this book down it was so great. Fantastic read. So quick paced even though it was quite long there was never a dull moment. Aelin and Rowan are perfect and I really hope they survive everything that is ahead of them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from awful I'm so tired of the (hetero) romances. Aelin and Rowan were perfect as BFFs and then suddenly I WANNA FUCK YOU SO HARD pls calm down, Rowan. We could've had an actual deep M/F friendship but nope. I didn't mind Chaol and Nesryn actually tho. Probably because they weren't heavy romance. I know Manon and Dorian get together next book which is ridiculous. Manon never wanted a man. Can we not have a female character without romance. And Lysandra and Aedion get together too next despite Aedion have no interest in anyone. I'm bitter. The first 450-ish pages were so slow and boring. Stuff happened like the party and then it would drag on and on and on. I'm done with this series; it's just become all about the het romance and sex and it's disgusting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't put it down It's been some time since I've been compelled to read a book of this size in 28 hours! It's been some time since a book has kept me up til 1 a.m. two nights in a row! I just could not put this book down. And even though I read it so fast, when it was over I somehow felt like I'd been immersed in the story for weeks and it was hard to move on! Sarah J. Maas can weave some kind of magic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a beautifully written book I cry every time I read this book, no matter how much I tell myself not to. It's very emotional and really makes the reader invest their thoughts and feelings into the story and characters. Definitely my favourite out of the first four books!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BY THE WYRD! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! That was the best god-damn 4 days of my entire life!!!! <b>This book was a phenomenal!</b> I loved <b>everything</b> that was written beautifully & brilliantly by the goddess herself, Sarah J. Maas. Thank you! This book was out of this world! This story may have been a bit long but every page was worth it's reading. The plot without a doubt was spectacular! The story flowed smoothly with Ms. Maas' writing style as she combined both perspectives and side stories of other characters, alongside Aelin/Celaena's story. Jumping to the characters, both the main & side, I found them all to be like a piece of a puzzle that marked the entire story line. They were all relevant and their short story worked perfectly well to create this beautiful book. I fell in love more and more with Aelin/Celaena's character as she involved into a suffocated powerful & mature loving female heroine, whereas throughout Ms. Maas' growing & developing stories of the Throne of Glass series, she was more viewed as a kick ass <i>girl</i> assassin & developing queen. I also really appreciated Ms. Maas' style in her writing about her female characters where it is easily recognized that she wrote them with a powerful ease depicting their brave & lively womanhood. There are too many of them to admire in the story but one I loved most was Lysandra she was out of the ordinary and by far one of the greatest female companions Aelin/Celaena has ever found. Oh and Kaltain but I'll spoil that one later. <spoiler>To me she was a warrior of bravery & sacrifice, a true hero.</spoiler> In addition, throughout the short stories of reading Manon Blackbeak's perspective I started to become more accustomed to her character compared to the previous book of this series, Heir of Fire. I especially loved how Ms. Maas revealed Manon of having a softer side, instead of the ever killing beast/witch that she was. There are just too many great characters to come across so I'm just going to make each short and as true to my words as I can be. <b>Rowan Whitethorn</b>: My god! Rowan! Boy, I learned to love you like loving chocolate. I loved your immortal character from the start when you were introduced in Heir of Fire. But this! This is beyond my words! <spoiler>You & Aelin as lovers is like a fantasy come true! And that tongue & mouth of yours! Gosh, I think I'm drooling! Oops!</spoiler> <b>Aedion Ashryver</b>: Oh Aedion, Aedion!!! I love you! Your bravery & love toward your kingdom & cousin have left me breathless! There is a playful side to you & the warrior side, and I love them both equally! <b>Dorian Havilliard</b>: OMG! Dorian!!! From Throne of Glass, I already fell in love with your presence! Then you slowly faded away in Crown of Midnight... Got back in Heir of Fire and became a slave of your father. Now in Queen of Shadows, you were just phenomenal! <spoiler>A demon prince! May all fantasies come true of your badass form!</spoiler> <b>Chaol Westfall</b>: Chaol... What happened? My boat for you has shipped and sunk away! I was so cheering for you while I waited for this book to be published, but then the tragedy & mistakes that you have endured has basically ruined you & your reputation in my books. You're not bad Chaol it's just Ms. Maas didn't bring you up as important as I would have. But you still proved your bravery as the Captain of the Guard <spoiler>and now Lord</spoiler>! <b>King of Adarlan</b>: <spoiler>You were evil. Then you were not. I feel sorry for you. Hmm... Guess I didn't hate you as much as I thought. But now you may be put to rest.</spoiler> <b>Arobynn Hamel</b>: <spoiler>Did you deserve to die? In my opinion, no. I liked your character. You were very intimidating and well... Hot! I thought your death was too clean but it was well an end to such a great character. You're almost as badass as Jericho Barrons in the Fever series written by another goddess Ms. Karen Marie Moning. *Sigh* But you're not immortal so I guess you can't come back to life like Jericho did... Oops spoiler for the other book if those haven't read it yet. Anyhow, I didn't want you to die... Yet.</spoiler> <b>Sam Cortland</b>: I know... I know... <spoiler>You were not technically in the story but well mentioned obviously, and you are still my number one favourite! I love you, Sam... So much! :'( Yet that scene when Aelin/Celaena went to your gravestone I cried my eyes out, like literally drown in my tears for what she said to you... So you are never forgotten, Sam! I just wish somehow... <i>Somehow</i> Ms. Maas can you bring you back from the unknown... It is a hope! Again... LOVE YOU SAM! </spoiler> I guess I basically went through all of the male characters in this list but they were each so important and very much touched my heart! :) Moving along, the romance in the story was there but wasn't there. It was such a torture as it kept teasing me... Ugh... BUT I LOVED IT! :D *Psychotic laughter* And finally! <b>THE ENDING! BLEW MY MIND!</b> It was the best wrap up for an amazing story ever! And I still can't get over the fact that I might have to wait a year to read the next book! *silently dies* Literally... *SILENTLY DIES* BY THE WYRD!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from High expectations but disappointed. Firstly this book didn't really feel like Caleanas story, because Manon stole the show. Manons character could have been used in a spinoff series about the Blackbeaks and it would have been epic, but her chapters here were great. So many strong female characters, Aelin, Manon, Kaltain, Asterin, even Elide and also Nesryn and Lyssandra who were two characters I didn't really warm up to in the first half. The story took off during the last 250 pages or so, and the writing before it all felt a little fan fiction-y ,and slow. Rowan is a cool guy but I don't understand the insta love. I love Aedion. it was good to see the original three from the first two books, Dorian and Chaol even though it would have been better if they had bigger roles during the first half. The last 250 pages alone are five stars worthy, but I can't with the first 400ish pages. Maybe if this book was shorter....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I signed up for This book takes a sharp turn from the direction the previous three were headed. Most things I enjoyed about the first and second book are no longer present. I have so many problems with this book, and now series as a whole. I could get though it fine, but this book did not leave me excited for the next one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bit different It wasn't as I expected and as some of the other reviews said it was kind of disappointing. As the previous books were a build up to this moment. Parts of the book I got really mad at because the characters have changed a lot. You get to meet new characters and see others in a different perspective from the other books, especially if you read the prequel first. The ending is truly great though and makes you want to start reading the next one

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dissapointed...BUT GOOD I was a bit disspointed in this book...it was not as enteraining as the first three but THAT DOESNT MEAN IT WASNT GOOD. BELIEVE ME IT WAS GOOD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Xcellent! Chaol is not a very likeable person, as a royal guard who served the most evil king, Chaol dare to judge Aelin self-righteously of being a murderer. If he is a regular Joe his judgement mayb more justified, but he is a protector of an evil king who slaughtered people in a massive scale regularly, I've no idea where did Chaol's judgements against Aelin came from, likely from his own stupidity & narrow mindedness. This is not an appealing character. Aelin, I think she paid way too much attn to how others felt about her. Guilt laced between lines. Not an evolved soul. Rowan is beyond perfect. Great story though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you love high fantasy, the Throne of Glass series is not one to miss. This is the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series and I have to admit that I’d forgotten about it! I waited impatiently for it to be released and then when it came out in September, I attempted to download it (I listen to this series on my Audible account) and found that the file was too big for my device. I tried to download it again in January and same problem so I forgot about it! I rediscovered it last week and have been listening to it non-stop ever since. I love this series. If you haven’t read Aelin Galathynius’s adventures in the previous books, you really should. It’s a series that should be read in sequence (although you probably could start in the middle and get the gist of the book). This is high fantasy and my favourite genre. It is also a “grown up” series: expect lots of suggestive scenes and violence. Besides having characters that are easy to relate to, Maas shifts points of view enough times that you aren’t lost with so many characters in the cast. As the POV shifts, the reader feels much closer to the each of the characters and their individual motivations. Having said that, Aelin Galathynius, the lost Queen of Terrasen, is definitely the protagonist of this series. And she continues to play that role in Book 4. It is refreshing to have a high fantasy protagonist who is a strong, independent female and that’s one of the things I love most about this series. But even with the shifting POVs, I love how Maas continues to surprise the reader throughout this series. Generally, by the time I get to the fourth book in a series I’m starting to get bored but Throne of Glass continues to deliver. At the same time, the fourth book ends with some closure and not on a cliffhanger. There is trouble brewing and the reader knows there will be more but for now one can sit in the calm of the storm and enjoy the fact that the beloved characters are all at a place of peace (despite how surprising it might be as to where they have ended up). Maas once again delivers with this book. If you love high fantasy, the Throne of Glass series is not one to miss.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why!?!?!!?!?!!?!??! I loved this series. Absolutely loved it. The writing was awesome, the descriptions were awesome, the action and magic and intense scenes and high stakes were awesome. But then SJM ruined the series. Let's look at this honestly. When, in all reality, does every single guy on the planet who is even slightly hot swoon and fall for the main character? Like every single book it felt like she introduced someone new for Celeana/Aelin to love. Ugh. Yeah, I get that she thinks her character is pretty awesome (and she is) but if she is realistic (and actually has some flaws), and SJM wants her readers to relate, then please, please please, I beg, don't make all the guys love her! And if you are going to push Chaol away in favour of Rowan... fine. But handle it a little better next time, please. You practically murdered him by how those loose ends were tied up. He was just pushed to the side and it made me feel disappointed, and like the conflict was left unresolved. (There were still some hard core Chaol followers that you deeply wounded, SJM :( ) Now Aelin just seems too fickle to me, changing who she loves all the time. Sigh. It was a great series, and had such great potential, and it makes me sick to see it all lost because of one bad decision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OVERWHELMINGLY AMAZING I was originally forced to read this series by a friend and not a day goes by where I don't thank her for it. This series has created a whole new standard for books for me, because this shattered any and all expectations. This is actually my favorite series, and that's saying something as it's beating out the middle earth (Lord of the Rings and Hobbit) series in my top 10 list. The main character is strong and beautiful and everything I could ever hope for in one. To sum it up she's BAD-ASS. And the guys.... Ohhhhhhh the guys..... just thinking of them makes me swoon. Im serious this is a book series for anyone who loves a combo of ass-kickery, hot guys, magic and magical fae warriors. I don't get why your still reading, and haven't already clicked the buy now button?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great continuation of the series! I'm such a huge fan of Sarah J. Maas and I love her books.... this one was no exception! The story was great and I love how a lot of the characters really evolve in this book! There are a lot of surprising twists and turns and like the previous reviewer, I too had to put this book down at times to let everything sink in! Overall, awesome book, answers a lot of questions, and I can't wait for the next one!! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! I am feeling all these different emotions after reading Queen of Shadows, that include: happy, sad, shocked and OMG! Sarah J. Maas has done it again with her amazing characters and wonderful world building. I wanted to really savor this book because I had to take in all the amazing things that was happening through out the book! Just wishing the pages never ended and I had the next book! Celaena/Aelin is by far one of my favorite heroines because she has fears at the same time can kick some bad guys a** !! Queen of Shadows will become one of your favorite books in the series as the plot intensifies that you are instantly hooked to all things that happen. Queen of Shadows gives you reason to root for some characters that you might have hated in recent books. You get to see some characters in a new light and a new appreciation when you read the book. I loved being back into these characters point of views again as the plot is becoming more intense. All her female characters are strong, fierce and are not afraid to let you know how cunning they really are. I just loved them all! Aelin and Manon are two tough characters! As many other people reading this series you know that Sarah J. Maas is not afraid to show the readers the other side of her characters, and the changes that are happening. Especially what happened in Heir of Fire! I'm looking forward to what Manon's character going to do in the next book, because their encounter in Queen of Shadows was bloody and fierce because they are similar in character. While I still love Chaol I just wish he would've fought harder for Celaena and not let her go that easily (even though she did some stuff as well). I cried during some parts that mentioned certain characters. Also Rowan and Aelin scenes= AWESOME!!! He has definitely grown on me through this book, and made me smile. I really enjoyed the friendships that are growing like Aedion and Rowan- one of the best bromances as well between Chaol and Dorian friendship. Chaol will do anything to save the prince from evil things happening. Plus the ending was superb! Queen of Shadows was everything I expected it to be. I am very glad I took this book slow because there was so much happening that I had to put it down to take in the awesome events that are going to eventually happening hopefully in the next book! If you haven't picked up the Throne of Glass series yet I recommend you do it immediately because Sarah J. Maas is one author who knows how to suck you into her incredible characters stories. Overall, Queen of Shadows is a must read for fans of this series because you will cry, be shocked and fall in love with Maas writing even more! I look forward to what going to happen in book 5.
