Rachel, a young Jewish Woman from a small town in Russia, has made an incredible journey. Separated from her friend, Sergei, who stayed behind in revolutionary Russia, Rachel has finally realized her dream of coming to America. Sergei, now in Moscow, is getting more involved in the fight for democracy and freedom of speech. He helps distribute illegal newspapers and prepares for a revolution with Maxim Gorky, a writer who has been exiled many times for his criticism of the Russian Tsarist government. Sergei ends up on a journey he never imagined.Rachel won't let anything stop her in her goal of starting a new life - not poverty, not even the great San Francisco earthquake. But will she and Sergei ever see one another again?
