about

A mouse has to do what a mouse has to do.

Ragweed is determined to see the world. He leaves his family and cozy country home and sets off by train for the big city. What wonders await him: music, excitement, new friends...and cunning, carnivorous cats! Silversides is the purring president of F.E.A.R. (Felines Enraged About Rodents), a group dedicated to keeping cats on top, people in the middle, and mice on the bottom. Can Ragweed and his motley yet musical crew of city nice--Clutch, Dipstick, Lugnut, and Blinker--band together to fight their feline foe?

“A crackerjack tale that’s pure delight from start to finish.” (Publishers Weekly (starred review))

From Our Editors

Long before Mr. Ocax the owl gobbled poor Poppy’s rodent swain up in one remorseless gulp, Ragweed had a series of wonderful and whisker-raising adventures out in the big bad world. This is the prequel to Poppy, in which the high-spirited Ragweed takes to the streets to find excitement and his fortune. Along the way, the quirky mouse encounters Silversides, the mean old cat that founded FEAR — Felines Enraged about Rodents. Narrowly escaping death this time, Ragweed moves on to form the Cheese Squeeze Club with his mousy pals. But the battle royal comes after FEAR has trashed the club and Ragweed and company move on to open the Independent Café. FEAR has every intention of destroying this rodent hangout, but they didn’t reckon on Ragweed’s persistence! A small hero for our times, Ragweed shines in his own tale, written by the award-winning Avi in Ragweed: A Tale from Dimwood Forest.
