Ramona likes that she’s old enough to be counted on, but must everything depend on her? Mrs. Quimby has gone back to work so that Mr. Quimby can return to school, and Ramona is expected to be good for Mrs. Kemp while her parents are away, to be brave enough to ride the school bus by herself, and to put up with being teased by Danny the Yard Ape. In Ramona’s world, being eight isn’t easy, but it’s never dull!

In this Newbery Honor Book, Beverly Cleary lovingly chronicles Ramona’s experiences.

From the Jacket

Everything depends on Ramona.Ramona's job is to be nice to fussy Mrs. Kemp, who watches her while her mother works. If Mrs. Quimby didn't work, Mr. Quimby couldn't return to college. On top of all that, third grade isn't turning out as Ramona expected. Danny the Yard Ape teases her and, on one horrible day, she throws up—at school. Being eight isn't easy, but it's never dull!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ramona Quimby, Age 8 This is a great book, and while reading it I found so many similarities between my much younger self and the main character. Cleary does a wonderful job of relating how the young Ramona views the world around her, whether at her school or home. I can remember the different fads at my school and my own attempts at getting out of the holes I'd accidentally dug for myself. If you enjoy this book, may I also recommend Cleary's Ralph S. Mouse.
