about

Herman Melville (1819-1891) was an American sailor, novelist, writer of short stories, and poet. Most of his writings were published between 1846 and 1857 and represent the sea novels, based on his experience at sea as a common sailor.

“Redburn: His First Voyage” is the semi-autobiographical book that recounts the adventures of a refined youth among coarse and brutal sailors and the seedier areas of Liverpool. The novel parallels Melville's own life in its replication of not only incidents aboard ship and in port, but also of emotional experiences involving the financial ruin and early death of the fathers of the author and his title character.

Herman Melville was one of the leading writers of 19th century, so you will certainly enjoy “Redburn: His First Voyage”!
