about

It's 1914 and the world is on the brink of war. But at almost fifteen, Anne and Gilbert's youngest daughter, Rilla, dreams only of her first dance and getting her first kiss from the dashing Kenneth Ford. Soon, however, even far-off Ingleside is engulfed by Europe's raging conflict, as Rilla's brothers Jem and Walter both enlist, and Rilla finds herself caring for an orphaned newborn.
As the conflict spreads, the Blythes wait anxiously for word of their absent sons, and a bad omen leads them to conclude that something terrible has happened overseas. Have Jem and Walter been lost, like so many valiant young men before them? And what of Kenneth Ford? Will he ever return to Ingleside to keep the promise he made to Rilla before he left?
In this final book in the Anne of Green Gables series, young Rilla Blythe is swept into a drama that tests her courage and changes her life forever.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read it again and again I first read this when I was Rilla's age and re-read it every few years. It is hilarious and devastating. The Blythe family face World War I, the sons on the front and the parents and sisters on the home front, with courage and faith. Attitudes to war are dated, but this war was meant to be the war to end all wars and the sacrifices were deemed noble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of My Favorites While I adore the entire Anne of Green Gables series, I could be happy with about three of them... and Rilla of Ingleside is one of those three!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Favourite! This is one of my favourites! Although Anne is not the main character, the reader is entertained by the next generation of red-headed damsels. Rilla is a young girl growing into a woman during World War 1 - a challenging environment for everyone, but especially for a girl trying to fulfill her duties to her country and family, raise a war baby, honour the sacrifices of her brave brothers, get along with disagreeable "friends", and grow into a woman of which her family can be proud. One of my favourite books!
