Rosie O'donnell is an American stand-up comedienne, actress, author and media personality. She first started her comedy career as a teenager, catching her big break on the talent show Star Search, in 1984. Two years later, she made her TV debut as Nell Carter's neighbor on Gimme a Break!, after which followed a series of appearances on TV and in movies that introduced Rosie to a larger national audience. She began hosting The Rosie O'Donnell Show in 1996, which won her multiple Emmy awards. While she was on The Rosie O'Donnell Show, she penned her first book, a memoir called Find Me, and this was the time when she developed her signature nickname.
