New York Times bestseller

Amy Tintera’s YA fantasy trilogy blends the romance of Kiera Cass’s Selection series and the epic stakes of Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen in a story of revenge, adventure, and unexpected love.

Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war; her parents were killed and her sister was kidnapped. Even though Em is only a useless Ruined—completely lacking any magic—she is determined to get revenge.

Her plan is simple: She will infiltrate the enemy’s kingdom, posing as the crown prince’s betrothed. She will lead an ambush. She will kill the king and everything he holds dear, including his son.

The closer Em gets to the prince, though, the more she questions her mission. Her rage-filled heart begins to soften. But with her life—and her family—on the line, love could be Em’s deadliest mistake.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty OK I enjoyed this book and I would like to read the series, however the only way I can think to describe it is that I liked it less than The Red Queen, that book had its issues but the plot was gripping and the writing was decent. The writing in this book is not as good and the plot is not quite as gripping. Still it pulled me in enough to want to read the rest of the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this! I loved this so much. Loved how it starts off quick, not at all as I was expecting. The pace just keeps up the entire length of the story. A lot of unexpected development throughout the story, in the best way possible. Cannot wait for the sequel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hooked From the Start Literally hooked from the start. "No one feared Emelina Flores, the useless daughter of the most powerful queen Ruina had ever known. But they would." I have a soft spot for books about fallen princesses and this is no exception. Em is fearless, but she knows her limits, which is nice. There are so many of these "strong female" characters that are said to be fearless when they are actually reckless. I also like how she is very guarded but Cas manages to make her smile, and vice versa. This book was amazing! READ IT!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Very Enthusiastic Stars! Keep Your Enemies Close Amy Tintera's first book in a new YA fantasy series introduces you to Emelina Flores, a Princess of the Ruined realm who must save her sister from the clutches of a tyrant and murdering King. Posing as the betrothed to Prince Casimir, Em, infiltrates the castle to gather information on the whereabouts of her sister, Olivia and exact revenge on the King. What she didn't bargain for however, was that the charismatic Prince would soften her resolve and cause her to question her mission. To say this story was epic would be a gross understatement! Amy Tintera weaves a magical and exciting tale that had me enthralled from the very first chapter. There is no "insta-love" here! The romantic tension is palpable and the battle sequences are fierce and exciting. This story is not for the faint of heart though. Tintera does not shy away from doing what needs to be done to take this story to places that you can't imagine. She brings to life characters so evil that the reader is willing to draw swords and dive into battle and characters so endearing you will wish that they were your own friends and protectors. I'm still reeling from the final pages of Ruined and am confident that I will be nursing a significant book hangover for quite some time. Thank you Amy, for creating such amazing characters in a world that is believable and for ultimately writing a story that transports the reader into this amazing and magical realm. And thank you for forcing me to wait for the next instalment in this monumental series! I recommend this book highly! Both male and female lead characters are featured in this story so it reads well for everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-read! I received this novel as an arc and it's was absolutely amazing. It's a splendid fast-paced novel that keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very last page. 'Ruined' is a mix between Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and The Selection by Kiera Cass with some Game of Thrones action sequences (after writing this I noticed that the description includes that as well). The King and Queen of Ruina have been killed - their two children remain. Olivia has been kidnapped by the King of Lera and Emelina, goes by Em, makes a plane to not only save her sister Olivia, but get revenge on the Royal family of Lera as well. Em's plan is to pose as the prince's partner and kill not only the king, but also the prince. However, the closer she gets to Cas, the Prince of Lera, she notices that he isn't as cruel as his father. Em is a strong female lead that you can't help but root for her. This book is a must-read!!
