Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whew! What a Ride! This was an outstanding finish to the Partials Sequence series! It really was a roller-coaster ride to the finish! There are times in the story where the future looks terribly bleak (worse than it already is anyway) and you find yourself contemplating if humans in general are capable of great change. We are a stubborn bunch... I don't want to give anything away, so I'm not saying anything about the plot itself. If you enjoyed the Partials and Fragments then you must read this book. Read it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Explosive Ending to a Great Series! "Ruins" by Dan Wells is the third book in the "Partials "sequence as the world braces for a final cataclysmic war to determine the fate of the Partials and the human race. As Kira Walker struggles to find a cure for the RM disease and for the Partial expiration date, rebellious factions on both sides secure weapons that could destroy both species. In a desperate struggle to avert genocide Kira will do anything to bring peace even if it means sacrificing her life. Dan Wells has ingeniously created a post-apocalyptic world where fear, mistrust and violence have spawned a clash of wills that could tear the world apart. Biology, politics and human interaction are bound up in a story that's fast-paced and riveting from beginning to the end. Woven into the violence and upheaval are strong messages about the humanity/inhumanity of men, about redemption, mercy and self-sacrifice. Gripping and intense, wry humour often breaks the darkly pervading and sombre atmosphere. The characters are realistic and unforgettable with all their flaws, faults and strengths. Kira Walker remains true to character, a young woman bound to a dream and willing to pay the personal cost for its fulfillment. She's a thinker, leader and visionary who's courage, self-sacrifice and determination are her greatest assets. Of the two men bound to her by love, Samm is an innate but reluctant leader, a planner who's taciturn manner masks a compassionate heart. Throughout the series he has evolved from being emotionless and mechanical to being able to express his feelings. In contrast Marcus Valencio is open and bluntly honest. His clever wit and sarcastic humor often get him into trouble. In this sequence new characters emerge like the Blood Man, whose real name's familiar, but whose personality had disintegrated into madness; a red giant who gives a warning about "snow coming", and Green, the brave Partial with a strong will to survive. All the characters whether friend or foe bring depth, passion and electricity to this final chapter in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed "Ruins", a thrilling conclusion to a uniquely imaginative dystopian series. Although I thought the conclusion ended a bit abruptly and was somewhat anti-climatic it didn't take away from my appreciation of this great series.

From the Jacket

Our time is almost up.

As the clock ticks closer and closer to the final Partial expiration date, humans and Partials stand on the brink of war. Caught in the middle, thousands of miles apart, are Samm and Kira: Samm, who is trapped on the far side of the continent beyond the vast toxic wasteland of the American Midwest; and Kira, now in the hands of Dr. Morgan, who is hell-bent on saving what's left of the Partials, even if she has to destroy Kira to do it.

The only hope lies in the hands of the scattered people of both races who seek a way to prevent the rapidly escalating conflict. But in their midst appears a mysterious figure, neither human nor Partial, with solemn warnings of a new apocalypse—one that none of them may be able to avert.

The final installment in the Partials Sequence is a thrill ride of epic proportions, as the last remnants of life on our planet fight to determine its final fate.
