Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok I agree with the other reviews, it's a good book if you are looking for something super light and fast to read. The characters seem to be really similar to every other Kinsella book though...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from decent Most Sophie Kinsella are enjoyable but after reading one book it starts to feel like you read them all. Easy read,

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheesy I honestly don't understand the hype with Sohpie Kinsella books. The books I've read by her aren't that much different from other chick-lit books. This one in particular was incredibly cheesy, especially the end where the main character says something along the lines of, "When he asks me what I'm thinking about, I say nothing, but in reality I'm naming our future children." Is that supposed to be romantic???

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review posted on Fafa's Book Corner! Beware spoilers ahead! I have been a fan of Kinsella's since Finding Audrey. Naturally I went through all of her books and tried to decide which one to read. Can You Keep a Secret? stood out the most. I am happy to say that I loved it! Emma has gone to represent her company Panther Cooperation in a meeting. As per Kinsella books the meeting turns into a disaster whilst Emma spilling a product on one of the other company's worker. Emma goes back in a bad mood and has quite a bit to drink. The plane she is on experiences turbulence. Out of panic (and she's drunk) Emma tells all her secrets to another passenger. All's fine until Emma goes to work on Monday to find out that the passenger is the CEO of Panther Cooperation. Can You Keep a Secret? was so funny and relatable! The writing tense is in first person all from Emma's point of view. There are numbers for the chapters. As well as emails and notes.  I related to a lot of Emma's work woes. It's really hard to prove yourself in a workplace that doesn't appreciate you. Emma's co-workers like Artemis reminded me off some of my co-workers. There's always that one person that's just fake. On the bright side Katie was fun to read about! She was actually really sweet and a good friend to Emma. Emma lived in an apartment with two flatmates. Lissy and Jemima. Lissy has been Emma's best friend since they were 7. Lissy and Emma constantly support each other throughout Can You Keep a Secret? There friendship was absolutely adorable! I'm a bit conflicted about Jemima. She definitely thought she was helping. But Jemima's suggestions were terrible. And didn't really make sense. I do have to give Jemima props for trying to help. Emma's family play a huge part in Can You Keep a Secret? Emma feels that she's disappointed her parents. Her cousin Kerry always tries (and succeeds) to one up Emma. Nev (Kerry's husband) also pokes at Emma about her career changes. Emma is able to sort everything out with her family. Prior to Can You Keep a Secret? Emma begins dating a co-worker named Connor. Connor works in another division at Panther Cooperation. During the plane ride Emma realizes that she doesn't really have feelings for Connor anymore. Emma is in denial about this. She breaks up with him much later on. I personally found Connor to be annoying! Emma asks Connor to keep their break-up to himself for the time being. Seeing as they work together. Instead at a party (while drunk) announces their break-up. Their office blames the whole situation on Emma as she is the one to dump him. And he doesn't even apologize! It didn't help that the co-workers didn't bother to see it from Emma' point of view. Connor also tries multiple times to confront Emma about who she is dating. He acts like a martyr and always has a way of patronizing Emma. I also found him to be totally inconsiderate. To try and look professional during a staff meeting Connor shuts down Emma's point. Just because Jack Harper was present. I honestly don't understand why Emma blamed herself for everything. Connor has a brain too. He can realize himself that not all women keep secrets. As far as Emma's secrets go I didn't find them that bad. Some of them were really dumb while the others hilarious! What was troubling is how easy it was for Emma to lie. And she did so constantly. Emma did develop and started actually admitting the truth. She even started to stand up for herself! Emma stood up to Kerry and Paul (her boss). I especially liked how she handled Paul. And in the end it paid off as she got promoted. I really liked Emma and Jack's relationship! When Jack appears in at the Panther Cooperation, he spends quite a bit of time poking fun at Emma's secrets. It was honestly so assuming! Through their relationship they grew. Jack learned to become more open. And Emma learned to stand up for herself and be honest. They made a really good couple. Also Jack's actually American. Can You Keep a Secret? takes place in London. I didn't have any problems. Expect for Connor but I think it was well handled. And blissfully she broke up with him early enough.  Overall I loved Can You Keep a Secret?! I highly recommend it.

Date published: 2017-05-30
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Excessively materialistic There is too much emphasis on consumerism instead of character development. Unlike Becky in the Shopaholic series, Emma is way too absorbed with herself and her own interests.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can you keep a secret Hilarious! I've read a few of the shopaholic series novels but I'd never really read anything else by Kinsella. She really makes you love her characters, they're so relatable with ordinary problems. This book made me chuckle quite a few times with it's surprises and awkward moments. The plot was a little predictable in terms of the romance aspect, but still a very good light read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy. Moly. This was my first read from Sophie Kinsella. Let me tell you, she did not disappoint. I laughed so hard with every chapter... and even cried from laughter and from being sad with her situation with her family and her snotty cousin. I adore this book so much. I look forward to ordering another copy, seeing as my paper back is missing the cover, thanks to my rambunctious toddler. Because of this book I have come to read more of her stand alone novels and devoured most of them. I adore the way the book moves fast enough, that it isn't a heavy read, but filled with laughter. Please give this a read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved It!!! I always look to Sophie Kinsella for a laugh out loud, light hearted summer read, and this one was definitely a winner. While I didn't love it quite as much as I loved I've Got Your Number, it still had me cracking up, and enjoying the slightly shallow main character who I found myself rooting for. I love Sophie's novels, and I'll definitely be continuing to pick them up in the future.

Ms. Kinsella always creates characters that are memorable, charming and funny. Date published: 2017-01-19
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny This was one of the first books I read by the author outside of the Shopaholic series. Anyone who is familiar with the author knows that most of her books are about a female lead caught in a web of lies and this book is no exception. However, it is a funny and easy read and I like it better than some of her books that were written under her real name Madeline Wickham.
Date published: 2017-01-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hilarious! While I didn't love this one as much as I've Got Your Number, or The Shopaholic series, it was still a light hearted and hilarious tale, and I really like the main character, Emma.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good read. I read Kinsella for her humor and wit. She delivers exactly that in this book. Great for light reading. Her endings are somewhat predictable but that doesn't stop me from reading her works because she delivers them in a light, funny, and modern light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good light hearted read. Looking for a good book to read this summer? If you are looking for something light and easy to read this is the book. You can't help but chuckle at some of the crazy situations the the main character get's herself into. This is my first official read of the summer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another Great Read!! I love Sohpie Kinsella. I've read all the shopaholic books and various other novels she has written (Remember Me?). This book was another great read. Not my personal favorite but I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you've read other Kinsella books, then this one won't dissappoint. If you are new to the Kinsella line try "Remember Me?" first before reading this one!
Date published: 2013-06-26
Rated 3 out of 5 by from good, but not Sophie Kinsella's best Was not quite as entertaining as The Undomestic Goddess or I've Got Your Number, but interesting story with an excellent ending. I found it was a bit dry near the beginning but definetaly worth reading!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Hilarious I’m not a fan of Sophie Kinsella, but this book really surprised me. I am so glad I picked this up. It was such a clever, and funny, and very loveable book. The characters are so wonderful, and there is never a dull bit. On a side note, I must say that I absolutely hate the cover. I find it very unattractive, and old looking. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, right? But maybe that’s why I didn’t pick it up earlier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I ♥ IT this book is pretty amazing, because it doesn't have to many "heavy" words. The story is also thrilling, when Jack Harper turned out to be one of the founder of a corporation, and also turned out to be Emma Corrigan's boyfriend. it's a classic story of love, comedy and forgiveness, but i was very disappointed when i found out that it doesn't have a second book. Sophie Kinsella is a definitely a natural writer. keep it up!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Really cute, a romantic comedy on paper. I was laughing out loud from beginning to end. Light and fluffy with a happy ending, it was one of the best 'chick-lit' books I've read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I'm a university student so I decided to get this for my 2 hour drive home for Christmas. It was great. The time just flew by. The reading was great and the story made me laugh, a lot. It was so good I continued to listen to it while driving around town, it was just like a novel only instead of not being able to put it down, I couldn't stop listening, I was actually looking forward to driving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it This is one of the first books I read by Sophie Kinsella. I loved it and have been addicted to her novels ever since. Can You Keep a Secret? is one of my favourite books, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations Emma Corrigan got herself in. Everyone has secrets but revealing them accidentally to the CEO of the company that you work for is not the best thing. This book is a must read.
Date published: 2009-12-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite Kinsella Book This is what chick-lit is supposed to be. Kinsella creates a winning heroine in Emma who finds herself in situations readers can relate to while at the same time hopes they will never find themselves in. When I finished the book I was smiling, and was sad I had finished. I immediately recommended the book to a few of my friends who also loved it. Classic Kinsella.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Book I've Read in a While. "Can You Keep a Secret?" is hands down the best book I've read in what seems like months. I am not a "Shopaholic" reader, so there will be no comparasions between the two (as there are in many of the previous reviews for this book). I have, however, read other Kinsella works. I've been more than pleased with both of the others I have read ("Remember Me?" and "The Gatecrasher", under the name Madeline Wickam), but "Can You Keep a Secret?" really stood out. The plotline itself is quite different. A woman spills her secrets to a stranger on a plane when she begins to believe she is dying. Later it is found that said 'stranger' is actually the CEO of the company she works for. The novel revolves around love, two-way relationships, and secrets kept and told. However, don't let the seemingly simple plotline turn you off! Kinsella, with her fabulous timing, throws in many twists and turns that keep you from the very first page. I was instantly captivated by Kinsella's writing, which has the immediate power to make you laugh out loud, cry, and fall in love with the characters (namely, Jack). Kinsella writes dialogue masterfully and witty as all get out! You KNOW the characters, you KNOW what they're really saying, you KNOW how they're really feeling, just from their dialogue. "Can You Keep a Secret?" is one of those books that make you wish it never ended. I stand by Kinsella's writing style and story creativity. I have yet to be disappointed, and am doubtful I will ever be.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can You Keep a Secret?? It was this book that first got me hooked on Sophie Kinsella's writing. This book is funny and easy to follow along with - a great piece of chick lit! After reading this, you will most definitely read all of Kinsella's novels

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can You Keep A Secret? This book was about a woman named Emma. When she's nervous, she tends to talk too much. While on a plane coming back from a business trip, there was major turbulance, and she starts telling the man next to her every little secret and detail of her life by accident and also of how much she screwed up her business pitch that day. Emma is moritfied, but she believes that she will never see the man again, so she starts to relax after. Suddenly, turns out that the man sitting beside her is in fact the CEO of the company that she works for, and he is playfully blackmailing Emma to do things, otherwise he will tell her secrets. They start to develop a relationship, but Emma is still worried and unsure if he can really keep all her secrets no matter what..... I really liked this book, it was addicting and I kept wanting to find out what would happen next. Filled with romance and secrets and surprises :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Read Another entertaining chicklit read by Sophie Kinsella. The main character is a young woman in her twenties who is trying to deal with things we all deal with: parents, career, self-image, relationships, fears, etc. She spills all her secrets to a stranger she sits beside on a plane. The 'stranger' then shows up at her office the next day and she discovers he is the CEO of the company she works for. In the process of dealing with this crisis she learns alot about herself and the people in her life. I have read most of Kinsella's novels and this is one of my favs. Definitely recommended for a fun, light read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just an ordinary, nothing-special girl This was a hilarious and romantic book with a light-hearted British touch. Emma Corrigan reminds me in some ways of a young Bridget Jones in how she thinks, acts and feels. No matter how hard she tries and how close she comes to finding happiness and success on a personal and professional level, there is another anticipated disaster on its way. She pretends to love jazz, wearing g-strings and calling her boyfriend Connor a pet name, darling. Obviously one little lie builds upon another but it’s far better than facing reality. After enduring a traumatic plane ride and divulging all her insecurities and secrets to a complete stranger, many realizations happen and there’s no need for anymore skeletons in her closet, maybe just a Miu Miu pony bag.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Starts out slow and then bang! After finishing the Shopaholic series, I was slightly disappointed that I wouldn't be reading about Becky and her crazy adventures, but after chapter 5, the story really takes off. Everyone has at least one secret that you wouldn't want your friends/family/coworkers to know. What would you do if they all knew?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can You Keep A Secret? This book was amazing, I love the whole plot, and when Jack came back for her at the end! it was amazing! I loved this book, and i'm only 14 years old, I would recommed this book to anyone who enjoys romantic books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Favorite! I've never been put on an emotional rollercoaster by a book, until I read this one! Even after finishing the book I still think back about the events because many of the emotions Emma was feeling hit home. If you're a hopeless romantic, you've gotta read this one! Probably my favorite by far of all the Sophie Kinsella books!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ho Hum Judging by the amount of reviews out there, I'm definitely outnumbered, but here it is: when the "Shopaholic" series came out, I enjoyed reading them. After all, how many naive airheads do you know! By the 4th book in the series, it was getting old and predictable. I was hoping this book would veer away from that type of idiocy. The novel did start out okay, but then it went downhill from there. Sorry :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I'm embarrassed and amused A co-worker loaned this book to me after I passed on Remember Me. Gotta say that I actually enjoyed this one, and chuckled a few times. There's a clear formula to Kinsella's stories, but one that I am willing to endure for the amusement factor. Plus it's pink.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Harmless fluff... I was a big fan of Sophie Kinsella's book, Confessions of a Shopaholic. I just found the book funnier than hell. Sadly, I didn't have the same experience with Can You Keep a Secret? Emma Corrigan is on a flight from Glasgow to London when the plane experiences some frightening turbulence. She turns to her seat-mate and divulges every single secret she has kept for the last twenty-something years. "I have no idea what NATO stands for. My G-string is hurting me. I weight 128 pounds. Not 118, like my boyfriend Connor, thinks." As it turns out, the guy sitting next to her - Jack - is the American head of the company Emma works for. Of course, she doesn't know that because she's new to the company and Jack hasn't been to the UK since his business partner died. What follows is a pretty predictable, though harmless enough, tale of Emma and Jack and how divulging her secrets changes her life in ways that are mostly good. It's fluff, people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Read it the second time and still love it This book was reccomended to me and once I read the first page I was hooked. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it's perfect. I've already passed it on to several of my friends and didn't even need to force them into it, they all loved it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Awesome Book I was hooked on this book from the word go, I just couldn't put it down. Sophie Kinsella has always been one of my favorite authors and this book is just another of hers that solidifies that thought. From the moment we are introduced to Emma I felt as if i had known her for a long time, it felt like I was there with her as all these embarassing moments took place. By the end of the book I was hoping the last page would never come and that we would continue to look in on Emma's life with Jack. All the chracters are well written and I felt as if I too had known them. This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone that wants a fun read (warning you will laugh out loud).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Practically a movie script ready to go! If you (like me) hate chick lit with the core of your being -- don't let this pink cover fool you into thinking this is just another one of those girly, mindless novels. This book is funny, sweet, smart and totally one of those books I'm gunna keep re-reading forever. Loooooooooooooved it! You will too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Hilarious!! Can You Keep a Secret? Emma Corrigan is a simple girl who thinks she has a good life, until she goes on a trip for work and gets plane sick. While hyperventilating, Emma decides to spill her lifelong secrets to someone whom she thought was a stranger, because she thinks she is going to die. This is a funny book about what happens when someone you know, knows all your secrets. Sophie Kinsella is also the bestselling author of the popular “Shopaholic” series. Can you keep a secret, has everything from heart-wrenching romance to table-pounding laughter all put into this fabulous book. Alyssa

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kudos to Sophie Kinsella Another great read from a gifted writer. I've enjoyed every one of the Shopaholic series and loved this new character just as much. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarity This book is hilarious and I loved the little subtle nuances and how descriptive Kinsella is. It's great for a visual person like me. And as one reviewer said she has great comic timing. Bravo! Can't wait to start the Shopaholic series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved It I was hesitant to try a new type of book. I've never done 'chick' before and thought I would give it a try. And thinking I would go to the extreme and buy a book that's also pink, as to make it the ultimate girls book. As I was flipping pages I couldn't help but to laugh. I thought it brilliant and a good start to going chick.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fun at first then a quick NO NO! This book was pretty fun at first I enjoyed it but a couple chapters later goes down the hill FAST. Got very boring, and it had no story or plot whatsoever. Sorry sophie your books rock but for this one, try again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved it I personally loved this book, all the misshaps that happen to emma, and that she goes though, are semi-realistic, if some of us where that lucky it would be amazing! The book is amazing, i and i loved it alot, i read it over and over again. It makes you cry, laugh and just think about everything!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Goes Down Hill Fast This book starts out great, with a good story and a very likeable lead character. However, it quickly dissolves into a foolish, unrealistic mess. It ended up being very disappointing. If you like Something Borrowed and Something Blue then avoid this book like the plague! I give it credit for a lovely main character, but what the author does to her is just wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too cute (in a good way) I just loved this book and can imagine how mortified the main heroine was to find out just who it was that she blabbed all her secrets to. This was such a cute book. This character is every girl plodding away at a job that she is way out of her depth in. (Been there, done that) Everygirl who has made multislacking a fine art will love this book. Everygirl who drinks too many lattes and eats too many sweets will see herself in this book. Everygirl who has made a fool of herself for a man and had some dismal, howling career failures (stuff you can laugh at later but, at the time, jeeze louise!) will laugh and recognize this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Add this one to your favorites list!" A "Shopaholic" fan, I thought I'd give this book a try - and actually loved it alot more than the other series. If you're looking for a book to make you laugh-out-loud, this is it! I found Emma someone I could definitely relate to - and want to be friends with. She'll make you cringe with her blunders, and root for her all the way - in life and love. You'll definitely smile the whole way through!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Absolutely Fabulous Better Then Shopoholic" I was very hesitant to read this book because I thought it would be to similar to the author’s four ‘Shopaholic’ books, but I was very wrong. This book although written in the same sort of style is very different from those books. It’s geared towards women of all ages from teenagers to the elderly and the humour in this book is funny at any age. This is one of the best books that I’ve ever read. The main character Emma is hilarious and so memorable I really hope that Sophie Kinsella decides to write a follow up book. If you loved her other books I have no doubt that you will fall in love with this book as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Laugh till you cry!!" Can you keep a secret? is by far the best book that Sophie Kinsella has written. This book brought tears to my eyes........because I was laughing so hard!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't a big fan of the shopoholic series so I was a little wary when my friend told me to read this book. Well, I can't thank her enough. Girls, if you are ever in the mood to laugh I strongly suggest you pick up this book. My sister who is not a big reader, was enticed to read it after she heard me laughing my head off and she was not dissapointed. After reading the DaVinci Code, I needed a light read and this book far exceeded my expectations. Readers will fall in love with Emma and enjoy all her quirkiness!! I recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny and light I had several chuckles reading this one on the train. The main character is a bit bridget-jones'ish, but the story is unique. Definitely worth picking up if you like this kind of novel - innocent british girl, naive, gets into trouble, very lovable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Secret-aholic I'm so glad Kinsella has gotten onto writing more stories than the Shopaholic series. The characters were lovable... this is the perfect chic-lit novel for a quick read...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth a look... In this novel, Sophie Kinsella manages to create a funny (although not intentionally), down-to-earth, relatable main character. This book is a nice break from the Hamlets of the world, and is fun, easy reading. This novel is highly enjoyable and is definitely worth a look if you're searching for a great light read.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from makes a good door-stop Unoriginal, sloppy, predictable fluff. Wanna know a secret? Sophie Kinsella is not English. Ha! So why does her bio lead one to believe she is? Cashing in on formulaic Brit-chick-lit (insert rhyming expletive here) d'ya think? I'd call this more chicken-lit: cowardly, bland and in need of a good neck-wringing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally absorbed This is the best book ever!! Besides the fact that i'm already obssessed with Sophie Kinsella's writing (and London), this book is probably the only book (besides the shopaholic series and the Undomestic Goddess) that i couldn't put down. Emma Corrigan is a character that probably everyone can relate. Everyone has secrets and everyone has people they absolutely can't stand. Kinsella captures the reader's attention once they open the book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extremely funny... can't stop turning the pages! Sophie Kinsella really brings excitement to readers with this book. Picture this: you're on a plane and you spill your secrets to a stranger, and come to find out he's the owner of a giant corporation you work for! Scary, right? Well, Emma Corrigan is the very girl who does this. The worst part is, this guy is visiting her work place for awhile, and all she wants to do is hide.... but not forever, just until she realizes something that changes her whole life....
