about

In the fifth book, Scaredy Squirrel plans his own birthday and surprise!... things get very crowded.

Scaredy Squirrel is planning his own birthday party for one - but despite his detailed plans, things get out of control when the party animals arrive.

He's back! Scaredy Squirrel, the loveable worrywart, returns for another nutty adventure. Scaredy never plans big birthday parties. He'd rather celebrate alone quietly in the safety of his nut tree and avoid those pesky party animals (ants, clownfish, ponies and Bigfoot). When all his excessive plans are thrown up in the air like confetti, will Scaredy play dead and cancel? Or will he face the music?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Scaredy Squirrel stars in another wonderful story. This time he must endure the terrifying task of planing a birthday party.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My kids and I loved it! What a fun book. Both my boys (11 and 6 year olds) love it and so do I. It's cute, funny and endearing…and in it's own way teaches kids a lesson to take life not so seriously!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrific Kid's Book My son loved this book for several years. He's just outgrown it (somewhat) but even so still takes it off the shelf for a gander. Fun book for kids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A perfect gift for a children's birthday! The fifth book in Melanie Watt’s Scaredy Squirrel series, Scaredy Squirrel Has a Birthday Party, is quite similar to the third book, Scaredy Squirrel Goes to the Beach: Scaredy is quite certain that he would prefer to spend his birthday celebrations alone in the comfort and safety of his own tree, that he doesn’t want to venture down for a party where there would be raucous people, falling confetti, and loud music, just like how he doesn’t want to leave his tree to go to the beach, instead doing the solo thing at his own private homemade beach. I always find that I’m comparing myself to Scaredy–like him, I don’t like celebrating my birthday. I always think parties are too loud and too busy, and I’d much rather spend a quiet night in with my husband and my dogs. But sometimes, sometimes a party could be just what the doctor ordered! While Scaredy is planning his solo birthday party, he remembers his good ol’ pal Buddy that he met in the second book, Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend, and decides to invite him to the party. Scaredy makes up a plan for the party, with small talk ideas (do’s and don’t's), and gets all of the supplies together for the best birthday party. And what happens? Of course! Nothing goes according to plan and Buddy brings more dogs to the party than Scaredy can handle! Fortunately, everything works out and Scaredy changes his plan for the next year’s birthday, realizing that it wasn’t so bad sharing his special day with friends. This book, in particular, sends out a message to both younger children and older adults–even though we’re all getting a year older, there’s always someone who wants to celebrate with us! This is the last book in the series and I certainly hope that Melanie Watt keeps writing them. The stories, the illustrations, the humour–it’s all perfect and great for anyone to read. If you love books and aren’t afraid to read something that’s in the children’s section, you’ll love Melanie Watt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect gift for a 5 year old's birthday! My granddaughter and I read our first Scaredy Squirrel book together about a month ago at the library. We laughed so hard! She adores the playing dead part and so do I so were happy to see Scaredy did that in this book too! Watching her beautiful face with a smile ear to ear, wanting to read the book over and over and laughing just as hard each reading, perfect. With just one reading, she memorized the things that scared Scaredy!
