Scaredy Squirrel never leaves his nut tree. It's way too dangerous out there. He could encounter tarantulas, green Martians or killer bees. But in his tree, every day is the same and if danger comes along, he's well-prepared. Scaredy Squirrel's emergency kit includes antibacterial soap, Band-Aids and a parachute.

Day after day he watches and waits, and waits and watches, until one day ... his worst nightmare comes true! Scaredy suddenly finds himself out of his tree, where germs, poison ivy and sharks lurk.

But as Scaredy Squirrel leaps into the unknown, he discovers something really uplifting ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the whole series I find it unusual to find a series that stays so good as it goes along. Often a couple of books in and the storyline starts to weaken. This is not the case here. Reviews below do this book justice. It is creative and funny. Recommend buying several of these books in soft cover as a birthday gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVED this! The beginning of a wonderful series. Scaredy Squirrel is just that: scared. He has OCD, a home he doesn’t want to leave, and a plan–that he intends to stick to! After realizing that life in his nut tree may not be as exciting as he had hoped, Scaredy Squirrel makes a plan to leave the nut tree. Unfortunately nothing goes according to plan, but Scaredy discovers that it’s not so scary after all! This is a great book for children and adults alike. I laughed while reading it because Watt (who is both the author and the illustrator for this book) puts in great little bits that are too funny not to laugh at: Scaredy’s emergency kit, exit plan, and daily routine. The illustrations are colourful, outrageous, and unique. They add so much to the story, too. Scaredy Squirrel kids to face their fears, even if they are a little scared (or a lot scared, like Scaredy). You may just be surprised at what happens–but just be sure to wash your hands before reading!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this! This is one of my all-time favourite picture books. It features a quirky little squirrel afraid of everything. This book is humourous for both adults and children, and is sure to be a hit. Simply AMAZING!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Treasure to Share If your child is anything like mine, he/she will LOVE the adventures of Melanie Watt's "Scaredy Squirrel". This cartoon-style squirrel is a loner who likes his routine, but discovers something amazing about himself, quite by accident. Illustrating that living your life always being afraid of new things, is not really living; your little ones will appreciate this lesson taught in Ms. Watt's fresh style. Truly, a treasure to share.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous read aloud! Found out about Scaredy Squirrel through the Forest of Reading's Blue Spruce program. This book & Scaredy Squirrel at Night are fabulous books to read aloud with very young children; they also have great appeal for those elementary students improving their reading skills - have seen 5th graders reading to kindergarden kids! And adding to the reading-readyness of both books another STAR! Melanie Watt is a Canadian author! And aside, ESL students in their 1st year also say that they enjoy reading these titles! Some of them check them out in order to read them to younger siblings. Any book which inspires reading earns 10 of 10 in my star ratings. I'll be picking up the 2 additional titles very soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great! My new favourite kids book. The tale of a creature who is afraid to leave his tree until he falls out of his safe place and has an adventure. Children and adults alike will laugh out loud at this story. "Scaredy Squirrel insists that everyone wash their hands with antibacterial soap before reading this book"

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Laughs (and Phobias) Aplenty This gorgeous little children's book is about a Squirrel who sits in his tree all day with his emergency kit. Yes, he's bored, but there are scary things out there - germs, walruses, poison ivy, and sharks, to name but a few. When he is knocked from his tree into the scary world - will he learn that the world is worth a little bit of risk, or run back to the safety of his tree? Delightfully illustrated, this one makes little people and adults alike laugh out loud.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love this book! My husband and I have fallen completely, head over heels, in love with Scaredy Squirrel! We are expecting our 1st child and have started a collection of children books, and this is by far our most favorite book! It's funny and quirky. The illustrations are adorable! We can't wait to see what Scaredy's next adventure is!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our class loved it! This book is the best and funniest book that we have read as a class. Our grade twos laughed the whole way through! We think that Scaredy Squirrel should have received a higher score for his fall. We can't wait to read more of his adventures. It was ridiculous in a great way and all of the kids got the jokes. Enjoyed by teacher equally as much!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious! This is probably the funniest childrens book I have read in a long time! It definately entertains the adult while engaging the child with the silly pictures and captions. Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of everything from spiders to green martians. It would provide a great venue to discuss what we can do to face our fears instead of being trapped by them.
