Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride and the other members of the "Flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It seems like a dream come true--except that they're being hunted by half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" who can fly, too.

In Book 2 of the series, the Flock members are taken under the wing of an FBI agent and try to live "normal" lives by going to school, making friends--and continuing their relentless search for their parents. But the Erasers return, forcing the Flock to abandon their search and make their escape once again. The voice inside Max's head keeps telling her that it's up to her to save the world, but this is especially challenging to do when she is faced with her ultimate match: a newer and better version of herself, Maximum Ride II. Max's heart-stopping quest to investigate the mind-blowing mystery of her ultimate destiny continues in the scariest, strangest, and funniest James Patterson novel yet.
James Patterson has had more New York Times bestsellers than any other writer, ever, according to Guinness World Records. Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977 James Patterson's books have sold more than 300 million copies. He is the author of the Alex Cross novels, the most popular detective series of the past twenty-five ...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would not recommend This is a story with decent characters and an okay idea, but that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. You get a distinct making-it-up-as-I-go-along feel which to me was off putting. Wouldn't recommend for teens or adult YA readers. As an alternative I'd suggest Six of Crows (darker and more violent) or City of Bones, which are both the beginnings to sold YA series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wings and Things Maximum Ride: Schools Out-Forever James Patterson, author of countless adult books such as The Lake House, has started the teen series, Maximum Ride. Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel, six runaway kids with bird genes and wings, are in Washington D.C. searching for their real parents. Along the way, the flock encounter Erasers, wolf like mutants that are always blood thirsty, and the Whitecoats, the scientists that made the flock mutants. Suddenly, Max and the gang are discovered by an FBI agent and are forced to go to school. High school drama combined with Max and her flock equals a whole lot of mischief and fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4.3-ish out of 5 School's Out Forever was a good book, but not a great sequel. The first book was more exciting, and had a lot more action scenes. This one kind of went around in circles--something happens...they escape. Something else happens! They escape. And so on. Around the last few chapters, it started picking up and got more exciting. Hope the 3rd book will be like the first.
