about

In the heart of crime-ridden Hutt Space, a Jedi Scholar searches for justice.

While trying to obtain the coordinates of a secret, peril-packed, but potentially beneficial trade route, a novice Jedi is killed—and the motive for his murder remains shrouded in mystery. Now his former Master, Jedi archivist Mander Zuma, wants answers, even as he fights to erase doubts about his own abilities as a Jedi. What Mander gets is immersion into the perilous underworld of the Hutts as he struggles to stay one step ahead in a game of smugglers, killers, and crime lords bent on total control.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Spicy Mystery Star Wars mysteries, a new sub genre in the SWEU. For a book that was devoid of familiar characters and light on known Star Wars history, this one was pretty good. It will be interesting to see if some of these characters are revisited at a future date.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Deep Space Spice Chase Hutts, the scum and stench of the galaxy, always seem to have a new ploy under their... many folds of skin. Needless to say that this novel presents a new type of Hutt, one who can be 'trusted'. The original intrigue of a murder is soon masked by a desire to learn more from these unique beings and how they really tick. In a time where the Jedi Order is still trying to set out its definitive purpose in the galaxy, a lone Jedi is caught up in a deep space chase that sends him from planet to planet, searching for the reasoning behind the murder of his former Padawan. When the Jedi, Mander Zuma, gets tangled up with his padawan's sister, a 'respectable' Hutt clan and a new brand spice, things are bound to get interesting; and fast. Scourge brought new light to many things in the Force: Mind Tricks and their limits, Hutts and their unique ambitions and how a singular Jedi, caught in a rough time, shows his true colours and understanding of the Force. If anything, this novel was enlightening; I say that because while we do have a fun time running down the source of the Tempest spice, the true story is that of understanding. A very interesting read indeed, and a recommended one as well.
