Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from "SEAL Wolf Hunting" by Terry Spear. Book 16 in the Heart of the Wolf series. Book 3 in the SEAL Wolf series (series within the Heart of the Wolf series). I read this book in October 2015. This was my review. I like this book. Not my most favourite but still likable all the same. The main romantic couple are Paul and Lori. Paul is a SEAL wolf who goes on a lot of missions with his best SEAL wolf friend Allan. They are finally home to take a vacation after a rescue mission that could have gone better. Paul has to deal with the loss of a hostage that he couldn't save and he blames himself. When they get back home, him and Allan are "volunteered" to take part in a "Honey-Do" bachelor auction. And who does Paul end up with? The grandma of the she-wolf Lori...who he's had feeling for for a long time. Lori is pretty sure her grandma is trying to set her up with SEAL wolf Paul. She also wants Lori to get him to become official leader of their small pack. When she's told she'll be helping Paul with the Honey-Do list, she can't avoid Paul any longer. But she knows he loves his dangerous SEAL missions and she doesn't want him to settle down if that's not what he really wants. She's not sure if she can be mated to a wolf who leaves all the time and may not come back if a mission goes wrong. The story starts off pretty fast giving the reader a good base of Paul's and Lori's issues. Not a lot of action in this story until the very end. I found this story focused more on the relationship between Paul and Lori and getting to know each other while doing chores around the cabin. Some mystery is thrown in with bank robberies happening and Paul and Allan trying to figure out who is the culprit. There is also a side story about Allan's sister Rose which was a little predicable but with a twist at the end that made me think "Oh! That's cool." Now, I don't usually post spoilers about the details of the plot, but this is the part that I found amusing but kind of bugged me at the same time. I had to put this in or my review would not be completely honest. Read at your own risk because this is basically what happens at the end of the book. SPLOILER - The only part I had a slight problem with was the pack saying they needed Paul as their leader. At the end of the book, after mating with Lori, he goes away on another mission for over a month and Lori takes over the pack and does a fantastic job on her own. Why the heck did they need Paul when she can run the pack on her own? Basically, it sounds like they "need" him basically for muscle. Lori understands Paul's love for his job, but she can pretty much run the pack without him. Why she had to be mated to him to do that, I'm not really sure. - END SPOILER Overall, I liked this story. Very well written. Beautifully descriptive. Funny and heartwarming. A good addition to the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All in a day's work I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It is book 3 in the series, but reads perfectly well as a standalone. Paul is a Navy SEAL coming back home for a well needed vacation. Lori is the want to be alpha mate, she is just waiting for Paul to settle down and realize it. They do face a few problems here and there, not in the least is Paul's realization that he is ready to settle down. Fighting a poacher hunter, bank robber, bad storms and few bad wolves. All in a day's work for a SEAL. Exciting, action, romance and great characters. Enjoy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from comically outrageous This novel was comically outrageous at times and emotional and thought provoking at others. Spear takes her readers on a high speed, intensely enjoyable ride that I won’t soon forget. The action scenes are just as vivid as the erotic ones, and romance hand friendship shine through at all times. All the while, Spear builds her world right before the audience’s eyes, without ever hampering their imagination. Spears’ hot headed yet family oriented characters had me hooked. You can really see their animal and human sides shining through. It was a complex and rewarding mix. I loved how neither outshone the other. And the characters’ personalities themselves drew me in. I couldn’t have imagined a better couple to carry this story off. I fell completely in love with both of the main characters. Their pack drew me in as well. The thought of a ‘safe haven’ was perfect. The growing pack was great as a whole. The way that Spear had certain individuals stand out in the crowd was so realistic & lifelike. I can’t wait to get to know more about them. The spirit guide animal was an extra twist that really allows these shifters to stand out among the sea of shifter novels. Fantastic addition to the series but can also easily be read as a standalone. I had a smile on my face throughout, even when the suspense had me on edge. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
