In this statement only such lands are included as have been paid for and conveyed to the State. It does not include some large purchases made in 1898, in which the lands were not conveyed prior to December 31st last, owing to delay on the part of the grantors in perfecting their title.

The unexpended balance in the Comptroller's hands, December 31, 1898, was But this credit was apparent rather than actual, by reason of land purchases for which, as just ex plained, no conveyances had been made prior to the close of the year, and, consequently, no money paid. The amount due on these lands will exhaust the balance of the appropriations. A schedule Of these lands bought, but not conveyed or paid for, will be found on a subsequent page.
