Nothing's sexier than an man who can keep a secret.

A typical bachelor party is all about beers and beautiful women. A vampire bachelor party is no different -- except the men are drinking Blissky (whiskey-flavored synthetic blood). And no one can throw a party quite like Jack, the illegitimate son of the legendary Casanova. But when the party gets out of hand and the cops show up, Jack has some explaining to do . . . if only he wasn't struck speechless by the beauty of Officer Lara Boucher.

Lara is sure there's something more than a bachelor party going on. What is Jack hiding? And why is he so interested in the recent disappearance of young women all over town? Her investigation uncovers more than she wants to know, especially about this modern-day Casanova. But if she's ever to make detective, she'll need to expose all his secrets . . . if only her heart wasn't on the line.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Secret Life of a Vampire" by Kerrelyn Sparks. Book 6 in the Love at Stake series. I liked this one. Loved the character of Jack. I really enjoyed the story line. The chemistry between the main characters, Jack (Giacomo) and Lara, was really well written. I loved Jack from the beginning but Lara I had to get used to. As her character developed I liked her a lot more. Jack is the son of the infamous Casanova. Lara is a pageant queen who becomes a police officer. When Lara is called with her partner to investigate a disturbance of the peace, she meets Jack and sees a lot of disturbing images in the hotel room. And now Jack has a serious problem, he can't erase Lara's mind of everything she saw! She's immune to his mind control, and that makes her very appealing to Jack. As the story continues, both characters develop very well. I found myself laughing at some parts and thinking "OH NO!" at others. I will definitely continue to read this series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Story! Great read! This story grabs you from the first chapter, and you won't be able to put it down. Who knew throwing a bachelor party would lead Jack to Officer Lara Boucher, a woman he desires in every way. Jack learns right away that she cannot be controlled with vampire mind control, and it he has no idea how much he'll come to appreciate that when Lara is offered as bait to catch a criminal, a vampire criminal none the less. Lara can't resist Jack and when she is kidnapped, she realizes just how much he means to her, but will he be able to find her in time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just Okay This was a quick, light-hearted romance. Jack, or Giacomo di Venezia, is the son of Cassanova. He's also a vampire. When a vampire bachelor party gets a bit rowdy, the police arrive at his door and he's forced to act quickly to cover up. Officer Lara Boucher knows something is up when she arrives at Jack's door. Who is the sexy, secretive man and more importantly, why is her partner suddenly acting like a zombie? Using his vampire mind control Jack is able to erase all signs of the out of control party, except in Lara's mind. For some reason he is unable to control her. He knows he shouldn't have anything else to do with her in order to keep his secret safe but he can't seem to keep away. While it was a cute little story, I felt it lacked any real oomph. I didn't really feel the passion between Lara and Jack. I also thought that Jack was a bit bland. For being a 200+ year old vampire, he seemed pretty young and out of touch. Lara, is young and seems pretty clueless for someone who is supposed to be a cop. There is a large cast of supporting characters however that must have been main characters in some of Sparks' other books in this series and I'm interested enough to probably give the series another try.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A fun read, but it was more about the next book. So this was Jack's story. Jack AKA Giacomo is the son of Casanova who happens to be a vampire. After a wild bachlor party Jack gets left to clean up the mess when the cops show up. Trouble is one of the cops is Lara, a sexy red who because of an accident, can't be controlled. Lara decides to investigate Jack and discovers that he's a vamp and that she's in love with him. The action was a little wham bam, but a good story nonetheless. We get more than a sneak peek in this book of Phil the werewolf. In the past things to do with this character were really vague. I can't wait to read his story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great one in the series Again, Kerrelyn has delivered another great book in the series. I enjoy how she is able to explain the different facets of paranormal life. I love the creative way she allows her vampires to create children and the results of that mating. With each book, a new character is introduced and old characters are more developed. I look forward to each new book in this series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING!!!!!!!!! For me this book was asolutely amazing, but only because of the sex and the fact that the main character is a vampire.I love how far Lara (the leading lady) goes with Jack and all the amazing things that happen.I would reccomend this book to adults like myself who enjoy this kind of reading material, and to anyone who wants to read an amazing book.In the book there is also a bit of italian that's easy to understand and just enough swearing to keep you entertained.I read my favourite parts over and over every day since finishing the book because I love them so much.
