Within this period however, on his going to Calcutta in October 1792, Mr. Duncan was deputed on a Commission to the Malabar Coast and remained engaged on that duty the whole of 1798, returning to Benares in March 1794. Subsequently he held the appointment of Governor of Bombay for 16 years, and whilst occupying that high position he died on the 11th August 1811, after, (as his monument in the Bombay Cathedral informs us) an unterrup ted service of 39 years.
