Rated 3 out of 5 by from An new experience I read this book for my Toastmasters Book Club that is meeting on Saturday. If it were not for this, I do not think I would have read this, or even known about this book. I don't normally read poetry. Stort stories I will read. This book contains both. Though they sometimes don't resemble the conventional storis or poems. That's okay. To grow and atrack a larger audience, writing must change and evolve and challenge us. Bukowski write about many different subject in his poems ans stories. Drinking, drugs, defecating horse racing, baseball and the price of fame. Sometimes a couple of these themes will appear the same poem or story. He is writing about what he knows, what he likes and what his readers will probably relate to. This may not appear high-brow, so that everyone can appreciate it. I may have to read some of the other works of Charles Bukowski to fully appreciate this novel. That is to say, I did enjoyreading this novel, but this is my first exposure to him. I am looking forward to our discussion on Saturday. The member who nominated the book is a big fan. I am expecting a enlightening speech.
