Series Description: Yoh Asakura is a junior-high shaman, one of the gifted few who can speak to ghosts, talk to the spirits of nature, and contact the other world. Having come from his home in rural Japan for advanced training, he finds Tokyo a metropolis full of ghosts: spirits with unfinished business, haunts, revenants, spectres that only he can see. With his skeptical friend Manta, and samurai ghost ally Amidamaru, he faces challenges both real and ghostly. But who or what is the "Shaman King, " and what shamans and spirits await him in the wide world outside Japan? When he takes a shortcut through a cemetery, Manta Oyamada meets a strange kid with headphones -- surrounded by ghosts! The "kid" is teenage shaman Yoh Asakura. Tapping the supernatural swordfighting powers of samurai ghost Admidamaru, Yoh fights Bokuto no Ryu, a sword-wielding gang member. But an even more dangerous opponent is stalking Yoh and Manta -- a Chinese shaman who wants to make Amidamaru his own!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Great Manga I haven't watched the anime or completed the manga series as yet. I have read up to volume 8 of the Shaman King manga series and have loved every single bit of it. I will admit that I wasn't absolutely sold on the story in the first volume and was very skeptical, but the story quickly picked up after that and has been non-stop ever since. I would absolutely recommend this novel. It is action packed, interesting, humorous, engaging, and executed very well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Good!! Shaman King is a great manga. The Anime version of it pales in comparison to the manga! Although the first book might not seem that exciting it gets WAY better later on! The cast of characters are extremely interesting and funny. There's a combination of enough different themes to please almost everyone (action, comedy, supernatural, suspense, mystery and a little bit of romance)
