Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great captivating story This is book meant to be read and not listened to. The details and the suspense comes through the pages very well in a way listening would cause it to be slow and lose the listener in some of the complexities. As you read through, the storytelling truly builds up and feels accelerating to the climax in a way that makes it difficult to put down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DNF-audio book I attempted to listen to the audio book and I just couldn't continue the story as it was so slow and it was excruciatingly detailed. I may try again some day and read the book instead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Lehane's best I cannot say I liked this book as much as I liked Gone, Baby, Gone, or some of Lehane's other novels. I chose to read it before the movie came out, but I quickly figured out what was going on with Teddy's investigation. This theme has been visited before by other authors and films. I did find it to be a quick read, but Lehane's fast-paced prose added to that more than the barely existent suspense.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Spooky at times. Amazing read Builds a lot of suspense and often gave me chills. One of the best suspense thrillers I have ever read. But I didn't really like the vague ending. 4-5 overall.

Editorial Reviews

“Fasten your seat belts for a bumpy, breakneck ride…utterly absorbing… is an express train with no local stops…engrossing.”
