Applicable to investors in all markets!

Today's sideways stock markets &#8212 markets that have hit both a floor and a ceiling &#8212 are likely to be with us until the middle of this decade or later. But you don't have to feel disoriented, according to Keith G. Richards. In his new book on investing, he shows you how to think and act like a technical analyst by understanding the basics of market realities &#8212 from phases to trends to formations and cycles. Sideways will help you profit from a financial reality that others are unsuccessfully fighting or fleeing.

&#8220Sideways makes sense of market gyrations for investors, and is a battle-tested hypothesis to boot. Keith has developed and adhered to this process in concert with a market very unlike what occurred from 1982 to 1999. Readers will do well to learn from the lessons provided in this illuminating book. I certainly have.&#8221
&#8212JAIME PURVIS, EVP, National Accounts, Horizons Exchange Traded Funds.

&#8220It's not easy to profit during the sideways periods experienced by North American equity markets during the past 11 years, but Keith Richards points the way, with his firm grasp of technical analysis and his equally firm understanding of the four phases of the stock market cycle.&#8221
&#8212DON VIALOUX, author of daily blog

&#8220Make way for the latest from Keith Richards, the rock star of technical analysis: a carefully constructed, empowering how-to guide for the retail investor. Buy this book and memorize it &#8212 you'll be richer for it.&#8221

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A Primer, Nothing More Keith Richards, the author of Sideways, admitted, to his credit, in the May '16 issue of MoneySaver that the "early January correction caught me off guard" and went on to say "there isn't much hope for a new leg up in the bull market on the S&P 500 at this time either". Well, it's been up, up and away for the S&P 500 since the February '16 low. If a professional technical analyst and stock picker can't predict market moves why would someone who has read this slender (101 pgs) book with its simplistic instruction have better luck. If you fall for the author's claim that by the end of the book you will be ready to trade stocks, you will know personally the meaning of "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". Because that's what you will have gained: a little knowledge. This is nothing more that a primer. If you want to learn technical analysis go the the free website and check out there Chart School or get a more substantial book. I have many quarrels with this book of which I will name a few. The cyclically adjusted price/book ratio he recommends using has been criticized by so many as being a poor market timing tool. Markets can stay high for years while the CAPE is high. Don Vialoux, whose website is suggested, was removed from the management team at Horizons Seasonal Rotation ETF. The last time I checked this ETF when Vialoux was still there it wasn't doing any better than the S&P/TSX composite index. The author causes confusion when in the last chapter most of the strategies discussed are for a bull market when the book is supposed to be about a sideways trending market. He says he's a contrarian but a lot of his strategies are "trend following". Happy investing and good luck!
