A heartwarming tale of an unlikely friendship amid love, loss, and lingerie

In the basement of her Brooklyn apartment, Sima Goldner welcomes women of all shapes and sizes with warmth, acceptance-and a bra that gives them the support and lift they need. But Sima, regretfully childless at sixty, and harboring a secret that has embittered her marriage, can't seem to do the same for herself. Then Timna, a young Israeli with enviable cleavage, arrives in search of a demi-cup and stays on to become the shop's seamstress. As they laugh, gossip, and sell lingerie, Sima finds herself awakening to hope and the possibility of happiness in this beguiling story of New York's underground sisterhood, and one woman's second chance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from mixed feelings for this debut novel. I found this book both easy and quick to read but hard to review. I have many mixed feelings about this book. I love the idea behind this book..the underground shopping society of a Jewish Brooklyn neighbourhood, and a peek into the lives of the 65 year old shopkeeper, Sima, and the beautiful 21 year old Israeli woman, Timna, that comes be a friend and seamstress for her, and unknowingly fill a void for the woman who has never come to have children of her own. Sounds good, i know, but what i don't get is how the relationship came to Sima stalking the woman through most of the book, and there is a part just after they meet that is rather creepy and left me wondering throughout what kind of turn the book might take next! This peculiar tale has left me feeling rather unsettled in my opinion of the book. I read 'Sima's Undergarments for Women' by Ilana Stanger-Ross, thanks to the blogger program for Penguin Canada. I received this book for free in exchange for my unbiased review.
